PC Boot Problems

Go to solution Solved by Spotty,

A) you're missing a CPU cooler and for some reason half the mounting for it

B) GPU should be in the top PCIe slot

Clear CMOS by removing the battery for a minute while the system is powered off and unplugged, then put the battery back in.

Unplug anything that isn't necessary for a POST and install a CPU cooler. Try booting with just the motherboard, CPU, memory, and PSU (No GPU, HDDs, etc)

So basically my pc randomly wouldn't turn on again, I've checked my ram,CPU,gpu, storage but nothing works. I think it isn't the PSU as it's giving power to the motherboard but I may be wrong.

I'm not too good at tech...

Corsair VS serie 450W for GPU that needs two power cords? You're so brave. :)

Re-seat everything you can (cables, memory, card) and check. Check also without GPU.

I've tried basically everything, removing gpu, reseating memory, trying to boot with 1 stick of ram, and much more

So if this lack of cooler is just for photo, then your motherboard is dead (even if you see leds lighting).

Where exactly is the battery located?

Round silver battery located just above the graphics card in that photo. Looks like a coin. There's a little tab that will push it out and without the battery while the system is turned off it will "forget" the motherboard settings and return to defaults.

Hmmm, wait, is it for real? I though that was only removed for photo. I hope it's not for real. :)

I would hope it's only while they took the photo, but the lights on the motherboard are on as if they're trying to boot the system, so...?

I have a cooler master CPU cooler, I just took it off to examine my cpu

Make sure it's back on when you try to boot the system.

Any luck with removing the battery to clear the CMOS?

Just can't find the way to take it out, can I do a quick boot without the cooler for a second just to see if it even turns on?

The hexagonal standoffs will unscrew from the rest of the mounting bracket. Then install the standoffs on the board. Then screw the mounting bracket in to them.

(... Probably, if in doubt check the manual for your cooler)

The thing is I can't find how to unscrew the hexagonal standoffs because when I try it just turns with the whole screw

Screwdriver in the screw. Hold the hexagonal standoff. Unscrew. If it's really stuck on tight use a pair of pliers to hold the standoffs.

You said that it booted again. That may be just lucky shot. I saw many broken motherboards that sometimes can boot and most of the times all you see is black screen (and all fans works good).

I can't see why my motherboard would die because of a shutdown?

Because it's only electronic part, nothing more. Everything can broke. Your gpu is heavy and can bend motherboard, your cooler is probably heavy. Lot of possibilities. Look at ebay and you can probably find lot of broken motherboards that don't want to work "without reason".

Surprisingly after doing the CMOS method and holding power button for a minute I got it to boot!
