laptop stuck a lenovo screen after ram upgrade

SUPER_MOOSE93

I have been trying to upgrade the ram for my laptop and its just not going well. I have a lenovo ideapad 310-ABR with 4GB soldered onto the board, and a 4GB stick installed. I originally tried swapping the 4GB stick for a 16GB stick and was getting blue screen, i think the speed was too fast so i returned it and got another 16gb stick but slower speeds. Now my laptop gets stuck on the lenovo logo screen, when i install the original 4gb stick it starts up no problem, could this be an issue caused by having too much ram installed?

i googled the max ram capacity for my laptop and got 12gb max and 16gb max. the website i bought from provides compatible sticks based on you laptop model and they have 16gb on there, is there anything i can try before i return this new 16gb stick and try an 8gb stick for 12gb total?
