PCIE 4.0 or PCIE 3.0?

makadee

I am wondering if its worth building my computer with a Ryzen 3900x PCIE 4.0

or

Intel i7 10700K PCIE 3.0?

What would be better for the future? I am mostly gaming, but I also need a powerful CPU to run applications and logs of chrome tabs for example.

Please let me know!

At least for now, gen 3 is enough bandwidth for ampere cards and they aren't really affected by it (well we'll have to see how the 3090 performs but it should be fine.), though if you go with z490, the chipset itself is technically  gen 4 capable, but the current cpu's aren't, so if rocket lake has gen 4 lanes, then you'll get gen 4 on that platform.

and if you're mainly gaming, the 10600k/10700k are more than enough.

Thanks for that, on the part where you said "then you'll get gen 4 on that platform and if you're mainly gaming" what did you mean by this, sorry im not too techy to know

Do you think this is a good mother board, and also does this support Gen 4?

i would say a 3700x would do, unless you're into high FPS gaming then a 10700k

PCIE gen doesnt really matter for 3080 and below GPUs, for now (not sure if RTX IO will change anything, but i doubt)

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

if rocket lake (11th gen) supports pcie gen 4, and if you upgrade to it, you'll be able to get gen 4 pcie lanes on the platform (z490).

and if you're mainly gaming, if your workload is mainly gaming, a 10600k or a 10700k are more than enough.

it uses 12 NCP302045 45a drmos mosfets, not a bad board, budget for a board and are you limited to this one?

you can check this list over here for gen 4 capable boards.

Is this what your talking about regarding the PCIE Lanes?

I am not limited to that board I am open to anything, can you look on memoryexpress website and help me choose a board that would be good for gen 4 one day? I would really appreciate it!  :)

I mean the board is decent, do note that the board does not support gen 4 as it doesn't have pcie gen 4 generator, but for the most part, it shouldn't matter and if you'll save some money then i guess, but if you're set on gen 4, the boards i linked are decent.

Can you please tell me how you distinguish which Z490 boards support the gen 4 and which ones done?

Or you could go with the 10600k, the drive is a  better, as for the case, you could go with the p400a or the p300a/500a or the meshify c, but if you're set on the o11 then sure go for it i guess, as for the cooler, You could go with the d15 or the nhu12s or the dark rock pro 4 (to name some), if you want an AIO, the arctic freezer II is a pretty good AIO. and as for the board, you could go with the aorus elite, or the vision G or the tomahawk if you want.

One more question about the CPU! Do you think for long term computer use overall, is it better to get a 10700k or 3900x? Is it better to go with AMD since it has more cores?

currently intel is better for gaming, and future proofing isn't a thing, we don't or can know what will happen in the future but at least right now, the 10700k is faster for gaming.

but would you say it matters to go with the CPU that has more cores? Do you also know if AMD or Intel holds more value for resale?

At least right now, intel cpu's hold more value for resale from what i have seen.

also 12 cores is not needed for games as they currently don't scale up to 12 cores.
