Gtx 980 vs Gtx 1080 | | Used graphic cards in India.

I’m upgrading my pc in India but don’t want to buy new hardware due to money restrictions.

Current specs:

Intel i7 7700

GTX 1050ti

16gb 2666mhz RAM

I was looking for used GPUs and found an ASUS strix OC GTX 980 for 9,500 INR (~125 USD) in great condition.

Price wise it’s the best deal on the market right now but I’m really confused about it handling modern titles and being future proof.

The games I’m looking to play are:

Call of duty: Cold War

Fortnite

Cyberpunk 2077

Light open world games like GTA V

All games on 1080p

My other option is a used GTX 1080 for more than twice the price (~ 300 USD )

Also, I can’t buy new hardware because the price In India is so high. For example:

The new RTX 3070 is launching in India for almost $700!

Is it worth spending more money for the 1080 or to buy the 980 and upgrade the cpu and motherboard instead?

I can also buy the 980 now and when I have access to more money later, buy a used 2070 or the 3070 If it’s cheaper then.

Side note: I also want to get into VR this year, so VR support is also pretty important.

Any advice is appreciated!

You're missing one of the most important parts. What monitor are you playing on? 60hz? 144hz?

If you're only targeting 1080p60, just get the 980. The 1080 isn't really worth almost 3x the price.

I’m hoping for 144 fps gameplay

I'd just lower the settings and wait for the 3060 to come out.

A GTX 980 performs approximately like a 1060, which is still the most popular graphics card on Steam, so it's still good for quite some time. On the other hand, 1080 is what, 70% faster? Probably not faster enough for a 140% price bump. So yeah, the deal's good and you may should consider taking it.

MSI B450 Tomahawk Max - Ryzen 5 3600X - G.Skill Trident Z 3200C14 8GBx2 (B-die) - ASUS ROG Strix RX 5600 XT O6G

Corsair RM850x 850W - Corsair Carbide 275Q

Dell U2414H - Logitech G Pro Wireless - FILCO Majestouch Convertible 2 (Cherry MX Red) - Cooler Master MH752
