new PC turned on and off multiple times, then reset bios?

tertyolwpp

Just wondering if anyone knows what happened or has seen this before - sequence of events:

- Turned PC on

- Turned on and off 5 times until I manually powered it off

- Windows would not boot

- Went to bios, changed boot priority to my windows ssd, also noticed all bios settings were set back to default (XMP disabled)

- Booted successfully

I have been using this new build daily without any issues for about a month now, this is the first time this happened.

Any ideas?

It's usually XMP, TURN IT OFF

(Linus had a problem with XMP too)

look in bios around memory settings for memory retry setting, if enabled and memory oc fails it clears bios settings for you, if disabled you have to clear cmos manually. Can't confirm your board has this setting because gigabyte has like 5 x570 aorus boards, but it fits the bill.

It boot loops up to 3 times and then resets BIOS when ram timings/frequency are not posting.  Ive heard X570 Gigabyte has issues with XMP.

But I would prefer to have it on? I bought a high end RAM and MOBO.

I will look for that. Thanks

Apologies, the title may have been misleading. This is a (relatively) new PC. I have been using it fine under heavy loads for 2 weeks now, I had turned off my computer overnight and thats when this issue occured.

I have successfully restarted multiple times without any issues for two weeks now with XMP enabled.

I am wondering if this is CMOS battery issue?

Unlikely.  The boot loop occurs, is normal, when overclocking memory.  It is trying to find agreeable timings.  If it doesn't, it resets BIOS.

This was just posted today, for example:

Check what BIOS update you are on, etc, brings more compatibility and stability

I just looked into your topic.  Are you using the Corsair LPX Vengeance DDR4 3600 CL 18?  I had that memory kit.  It did not work with the solution I have posted.  I had to switch it out for the Corsair LPX Vengeance DDR4 3200 CL 16 which works at the right settings.  Which BIOS are you on?  When you update the BIOS it will reset the BIOS settings.  BIOS F22 works fine with Corsair LPX Vengeance DDR4 3200 CL 16.  It might not work for others though.  BIOS F30 does not work for me with DDR4 3200 CL 16.

If you are on the latest BIOS version, you can update to a previous version which I did.  I had no luck overclocking to 3600Mhz with the Corsair LPX Vengeance DDR4.

This is my first time dealing with this issue, and unlike your post on the other thread my computer never shuts down due to this while it is on. So I am unsure if we are having the exact same problem here. This happened for the first time this morning on initial bootup.

And apologies, I actually wrote the incorrect specs (updating). I am using RAM:

G.SKILL 32GB 2X16 D4 3600 TRZ RGB

Have you tried not overclocking your ram to see if you are able to boot into Windows?

No, the only thing I have done is enable XMP. Not overclocking yet. I have never overclocked ram or adjusted ram settings directly.

When you enable XMP it automatically overclocks your RAM.  You should try to disable XMP and see if your system boots windows.

Sorry perhaps I did not explain well. I actually have no issues booting to windows, for the past 2 weeks I have used this PC heavily with XMP enabled.

This morning I just had some odd behavior, where my PC would turn on and off (5 second intervals). I then went to bios and all my settings (fan settings, XMP) were reset. Since I am still within the return period for the MOBO and I found this error strange, I just wanted to investigate it now.

I am still not sure what caused it.

I have heard that XMP Profile is kind of buggy on Gigabyte X570 motherboards.

When I updated the BIOS for my Gigabyte Aorus X570 motherboard, it reset all my BIOS settings.

X570 AORUS ULTRA (rev. 1.1/1.2)

I updated all the drivers to the latest version on the website (AMD chipset, mobo drivers).
