24 inch 1080p vs 27 inch 1440p 240hz

Harit Paurana

Hey guys, so I'm buying a new monitor. I'm gonna use it for professional esports (Fortnite and CS:GO), but I'm confused between a 24 inch 1080p and a 27 inch 1440p, both 240hz. I'm considering the Alienware AW2521HF and the Samsung Odyssey G7 27". Which one is better for my purpose? Is 27 to large? Will the curve gimme advantage or will it degrade my gameplay? Imma use the RTX 3070 or the 3080, and imma upgrade to 3090 in Jan '21. I am also considering upgrading to the 360hz monitor later.

If they're both the same refresh it kind of comes down to personal preference. I'd go with the larger one with more pixels.

Which ever one your sponsor will buy you, according to their specifications as to your performance.

The curve is preference, it won't affect your performance at all, not give you advantage.  It's a comfort thing.

its very much personal preference. people had a lot of issues with the first batch of odyssey panels across all the models, and actual pros stick to 1080p in competitive afaik so the alienware or that benq that is also common for esports would be good options, or perhaps the asus 280hz or the new 360hz monitors. twice the price of a good 144hz 1080p monitor though...

topics i need help on:

Spoiler

my "oops i bought intel right before zen 3 releases" build

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 (placeholder)

OS Drive: Samsung PM981 1tb (OEM 970 Evo)

Storage Drive: XPG SX8200 Pro 2tb

Backup Storage: Seagate Barracuda Compute 4TB

PSU: Seasonic Prime Ultra Titanium 750W w/ black/white Cablemod extensions
Case: Fractal Design Meshify C Dark (to be replaced with a good case shortly)

basically everything was bought used off of reddit or here, only new component was the case. absolutely nutty deals for some of these parts, ill have to tally it all up once it's "done" :D

i find 24 inch better when playing competitive/fast paced games, i sometimes even letterbox them

smaller viewport is easier to keep track of things

but for sight seeing games, 27-inch is neat

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Just went from 1080p@144, 24" to 1440p@144, 27". Loving the increased space, much easier to focus on the game. I think the rest is preference, but desktop use is sooo much better imo. For the curve, I'd recommend trying flat and curved side by side. Probably can't do that right now though.

I shall be seated close to the monitor and I don't think 27" will allow me to see completely though

You know your setup best. I'm around... 25 cm? from my monitor and it can take up most of my vision, but I see all of it, and my desk too. 24" is plenty big, you don't need bigger. It's just nice.

If you can save some money by going 24", do that. Alienware one seems overpriced to me (finding ones at 40% of the price), maybe BenQ or ASUS?
