3070 or 3080?

Frosty02

Hey everyone,

I’m currently looking to upgrade my 1060 to either a 70 or 80 out off the 3000 series. I’ve currently got a i7 8700 as cpu and was wondering what your advice would be on what card to buy.

I’m currently gaming on 1080p 144Hz but will upgrade later this year to 1440p 144-165Hz.

I know that “real” benchmarks of the 3070 aren’t out yet and I’m not sure if my i7 would bottleneck the performance of the 3080.

What do you think I should do?

rtx 3080 will be slightly bottlenecked since you cant overclock the cpu. but for 1440p rtx 3080 makes more sense than rtx 3070

Hello,

Do you have enough money ? Get the 3080.

You don't want to spend that much ? Get the 3070.

I’ve got enough money :)

But if the 3070 would be more than sufficient to run “every” game on 1440p I would happily spend a little less and buy the 3070

benchmarks for the 3080 are out.

the 3070 should be similar to a 2080 super, maybe a tad better.

look at benchmarks for both of these for the games you're interested in at 1440p and see what makes more sense for you.

this is a good review with benchmarks of the 3080. assume for now the 3070 will be similar to a 2080 super.

You think that a 3070 wouldn’t be able to handle 1440p? I’m really planning on using this card for atleast 3-4 years. And wanna make sure that I can keep running 1440p on new games in 2/3 years

I think a 3080 would then be “better” to buy since I’m planning to keep using the card for atleast 3 years in 1440p?

Depends on what you want. If you are okay with 80-120 FPS in AAA single player titles, then the 3070 should be enough at 1440p. If you want 144+ fps no matter what game, you'd need the 3080.

144fp+ would be great 😅
