Router as an Access Point.

I'm having problems with one of my wireless printers being detected on my network.

If i was to extend my wireless using a second router could i then get it to detect my printer that way?

First a few questions:

 

The printer is too far away from the existing wireless network?

 

You already own the second router?

@HairlessMonkeyBoyWhats basically happened is my Asus RT-AC86u router died a death and i've had to fall back on a Netgear Nighthawk X6 R8000.

 

I cannot get the printer on the wireless network whatever way i try and ive been given an old TP Link Acher C50 AC1200 which i will use as the access point.

 

How do i go about getting the printer to be recognised by the second router?

It's been a while but this is the basic process as I remember it:

 

Disable DHCP on the TP Link router, since the Netgear will be handling this.

 

It sounds like there is some incompatibility between the Netgear and the printer, so you'll want to use a unique SSID for the TP Link Router ie "Printer Wifi".

 

Connect a LAN port on the Netgear to a LAN port on the TP Link (not WAN).

 

That should do it, but I may have missed something.

That depends on the printer. I assume it is a wifi capable printer?

it's possible you'll need to connect it via USB so that the wifi setup are programmed into the printer.
