3070 or 3080 for Video Editing?

ThatDiabeticGuy

I'm in the process of assembling a 4K editing rig parts list and wondering if I should go for the new 3070 or 3080. I previously had planned to get the 2070 Super for about $700 but once the 3000 series was announced I put the 2070 behind me. The goal for this rig will be to easily edit and render 4K video, mainly inside the Adobe Suite.

For 4K video editing even a 1050ti can do the job. So i say 3070 will do.

Get a 8 core cpu + fast SSD + 32gb memory and you're good to go.

GPU are good for faster rendering, you're not in a hurry arent you?

Ryzen 5700g @ 4.4ghz all cores | Asrock B550M Steel Legend | 3060 | 2x 16gb Micron E 2666 @ 4200mhz cl16 | 500gb WD SN750 | 12 TB HDD | Deepcool Gammax 400 w/ 2 delta 4000rpm push pull | Antec Neo Eco Zen 500w

If you're not playing with tile based renderers, it doesnt really matter how fast the GPU is. All it does is video encoding in this case, and that part is the same from low end all the way up to high end.

I'd bring that CPU up to 16c/32thr and the RAM to 64gb.

WHY?

You're not editing a movie.

You're wasting a lot of money when all you need is a bit of patience.

You have no idea what he is editing since he didn't mention it. He didn't mention if he will be making money out of it as well, and in this case time is money.

A 6 core Ryzen + 1050ti will satisfy this requirement.

Unless specified, you can't just offer someone 3950x.

The definition of easily is up in the air, since mine is clearly different than yours.

easily

= with ease, no problem, not the most expensive thing you can buy.

we can go round and round with this terminology, the point is should he buy 3070 or 3080?

my answer is 3070, since a 1050ti can run it 'easily'.
