in order to use smart cards for windows auth offically, you need to use active directory and certs.

If you want physical auth, get something like a yubikey.

There made for being used for login.

I have set this up before with yubikeys as smart cards, but then decided that duo was a better solution.

Essentially, setting up smart card for local account is not that easy. Nor is setting them up for website logins. Best thing would probably be to reason with seller saying you made a mistake.

And? The link is discussion about how to enable smart cards as login method for local user. Read it if you want to delve into this more. And if you don't, reason with ebays seller saying you didn't do your research before buying and actually don't have use for blank cards.

You use the certificate temple to make a cert for a user.

But that requires active directory and active directory certificate services to be setup.

Well, I have the certificate services setup, but I can't get windows to detect the cards.....

i know it has been a long time,

i have successfully installed EIDAuthenticate on my pc and on my active directory server and i was ablle to enroll a test user to a "fake" smart card (i used a USB drive as a "smart card"), but when i try to use my cards with my smart card reader, i get this:

anyone has a solution for me?
