Mic for Discord and Recording

I disagree, if you already have the 57 just pick up an inline preamp for it, the 57 will be much better than any cheap condenser for recording guitar amps and with the preamp will be much easier to drive. Condenser mics will also definitely pick up the AC noise (especially pseudo-LDCs like the 2020.) The cheapest option I know of is the Klark Teknik CT1 and it's just as good as the Cloudlifter and Fethead.

Hey all, keeping with my tradition of asking questions I'm sure have been asked on this forum a million times, do ya'll have any recommendations for a good mic to pair with my Scarlett 2i2 (3rd gen).

I have a couple different use cases. It will mostly be used to speak with friends over discord. I'll occasionally be using it to mic up my amp to record music. Based on my search up to this point, two mics I'm looking at are the AT2020 xlr and the Blue Ember. I've seen the Blue Yeti/Snowball are good but I figure if I already have an audio interface I might as well get an XLR mic.

I have a window AC unit next to my desk which isn't super loud but I figure I'd mention it (I have a Shure SM57 but its too quiet connected to the 2i2, plus its annoying not being able to move around).

I'd Probably say the AT2020 xlr, if the ac is picked up you can always adjust the microphones pick up range through either settings for what application your using or otherwise :)

I hope that I was able to help 🙂

Thanks! Good to know if the AC comes through I'll have options. I currently have a modmic and no AC sound travels through it. Is the modmic also a condenser mic? Is that a good indication that the noise in the room likely won't be a problem

So the ct1 would let me use my shure for around $30? Worth a shot, I'll give that a try.

It uses the phantom power on your interface to amplify the mic signal so yeah, should do the trick.

Think I'm gonna grab the ct1. I already have a good dynamic mic, it'll solve all my issues if I can just drive it from what I can tell.

If it doesn't work out I'll just pick up an AT2020 xlr since that seems to be the standard.
