Using a Laptop MXM GPU in a Desktop?

stradio

I'll start by saying I know this isn't practical at all, more of a curiosity. I recently tore down an old notebook that had an Nvidia 675M in it, and I was considering that I might be able to repurpose it into a desktop rig somehow.

Beyond the obvious issues of needing to rethink cooling and mounting, the card attaches with MXM and has no video out. After doing some research I found these riser cards that Eurocom is making that hold an MXM card and sit in a PCIe slot, probably intended for miners or something:

https://www.notebookcheck.net/Eurocom-MXM-to-PCIe-x16-adapter-lets-you-put-a-laptop-GPU-inside-of-a-desktop-PC.479568.0.html

Thing is, these riser cards are crazy expensive since they're commercially positioned, $699 (see here) for the cheapest Nvidia MXM -> PCIe riser.

Has anyone done this successfully?

What do you mean with "this?" Buying an MXM-to-PCIe - adapter?

Hand, n. A singular instrument worn at the end of the human arm and commonly thrust into somebody’s pocket.

If you have an integrated GPU one of these cheap mining adaptors and this hack for using mining cards might work. not sure how well over a 1x interface though.

You could get a nearly top of the line GPU for that price so I don't see a reason why you would need the adapter.

I will recommend an NHu12s (or an NHd15 (maybe)) for your PC build. Quote or @ me @Prodigy_Smit for me to see your replies.
