hi

i think i need a CPU upgrade after turning on ac odysey and realising that my CPU is at 100% and GPU at about 70%.

and i deduced that i need a new processor and maybe a new motherboard.

my specs:

CPU

intel core

i5-7500 3.4ghz

GPU
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB

RAM

16GB

motherboard

ASRock H110M-HDV R3.0

(2 ram slots)

(Socket 1151)

any recomendations and help would be nice i dont know anything about picking the right CPU or a motherboard

thanks.

Really depends on your budget.

For a lower budget I would suggest a 3100/3300X with a sub $80 B450 board.

For a more midrange budget I would get a 3600 and a $110-140 B550 board, or wait for Zen 3.

If you don't think you'll be upgrading your GPU for a while, then I'd get the 3300X

and why go ryzen?

Better value for money usually. Also can you wait a couple months? We are expecting ryzen 4000 this fall which would be the goto cpu's then. Either way ryzen 3000 will get a pricedrop too so it's a win win regardless.

$600 is a fair bit. I would suggest selling your 1060 and getting a new CPU, GPU and motherboard (if you want more performance and your PSU is decent enough)

Say you get $150 for the 1060.

I'd then get B550 board (MSI pro VDH WiFi is a good value option) and a Ryzen 3600, or its zen 3 successor - probably the 4600.

Then whatever left on the GPU.

Definitely think you're best waiting till after zen 3. By then you'll be able to get a new CPU (or a cheaper old one) and have the full suite of Geforce and Radeon cards to choose from

Probably have to wait and see. I'd imagine Nvidia will launch some sort of 3060 that could be a viable choice, or AMD will offer something. I'd just wait and see for now
