File Syncing/Backup Software?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question but here I go.

I have an external 1TB HDD that I've attached to the USB port of my Archer C5 v4 router. I'm using it to Backup files from my laptops currently. Is there any free software that will automatically sync files once I configure it? I'm using Windows but I'm also interested if there's a way to backup photos from my phone(Android) directly to the hard drive.

Its best to do it your self.

 

Ive always found these backup programs miss out files and u end up only part of what u want.

That's annoying. I've been doing it manually for a long time sorting through the mess of documents my parents made. The thing is there are copies of some files on two different laptops that both need to be up to date and doing it manually is so tiring.

You could try FreeFileSync - Free Data Backup and File Synchronization Software

 

You'd have to the realtimesync options to what you need it to do. Or you could run freefilesync normal mode and backup that way. Bare in mind if you're saving to the same place/folders from both laptops, you could end up overwriting something... so might be best to keep where they are backed up separate to not have any mistakes.

I recommend trying it out first, choose a "temp" folder to backup to, and check for errors etc.

I did stumble across that software. i was wondering if there were other options. Thanks, I'll give it a go. I'll try it first with a temp folder like you suggested.

No worries. I have been using it for approx 5+ years now, it does the job pretty well. I use it to back up my files from PC/laptops etc to my NAS, and also to my external drives from my NAS, and have rarely encountered any problems. In fact I can't even think of one instance, whether that's my memory going or if it was that long ago is anyone's guess though

I have ArqBackup 6 backing up to Backblaze B2, however I can't personally say how reliable ArqBackup is since I (thankfully) never had to actually restore from it.
