I'm planning on going to to a 3080 but I have a few concerns.

I am looking at getting an AiB card. But they have the backside of the chip exposed which my nhd15 might rest on. Will that risk shorting something?

Will my 650w platinum psu be able to handle a 3080? Running a 3700x with pbo, 64gb of ram(weird scenario), 1 nvme, 1 ssd 1 hdd and 4 case fans.

The AiB 3080 seem to be using 3x 8pin for power. My PSU only has 2x8pin. Is the third 8pin totally necessary or is that more for the high end overclocking?

definitely yes if it's touching it

probably yes, but will know when reviews come out

assuming it's a good PSU

platinum =/= good

most GPU (if not all) wont allow you to even post the system until every pcie power is plugged in

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

No, its below the level of the backplate, even if it wasn't your heatsink is painted.

The only things it can touch are the plastic SMD housings or the metal tension bracket which cant short out.

don't worry the gpu sag due to the shear size of the cards will create a clearance. Maybe there alittle wiggle room for the cooler to shift up a bit? I'm sure the gpu die clamp will be bit higher than components on the back. All speculation of course.

The 3080 isn't that big. Much smaller than my current card. But I'll save up for a few swaps. New psu and maybe go AIO

No rush
