Looking for headphones for a bass head like me

Boomer112

Hi! I recently noticed that my Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro's are half-broken... The right cup is much quiter than the left.

Yes, i could buy the exact same again but i'm a guy who wants to try out new things when stuff breaks, etc which is why i'm here and wanna ask for suggestions. Just like the title says i'm a bass head so i'd love some headphones with booming bass without them sounding muddy or whatever and without having to bass boost it with a software like i did with my Beyerdynamics.

I don't really have a budget but possibly somewhere around $150-170. Could the AKG K371 or K361 maybe be something for me?

Ohh, right. I forgot about that. I honestly don't really care. I could go for both openback or closedback. It doesn't really matter to be honest.

I really love my DT990 Edition 600 Ohm, but i think they have comparably weak bass. It's not that rumbly, but very clear. I personally really like the sound profile of the DT990's.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

Hmm... ok. Do you run them through an amp or whatever? If so do they sound worse without? Clearly i'm not really that experienced with audio related stuff so i have no idea. I've never owned nor tried a headphone amp.

I run an internal sound card with a included headphone amp to power this model. They are also available in a 32 Ohm version for use without amps. You only use a little audio resolution and detail with the lower Ohm models, but the sound profile stays the same.

My Audio-Technica M40X's are stupidly bassy, and are pretty cheap. They get pretty good reviews and don't need a damn speaker amp to get them loud enough.

LTT's Resident Porsche fanboy and nutjob Audiophile.

Main speaker setup is now;

Mini DSP SHD Studio -> 2x Mola Mola Tambaqui DAC's (fed by AES/EBU, one feeds the left sub and main, the other feeds the right side) -> 2x Neumann KH420 + 2x Neumann KH870

(Having a totally seperate DAC for each channel is game changing for sound quality)

Do you have a pre-existing DAC/AMP? And any gaming?

Stupidly bassy as in good bass? Like is it really good bass for their price?

A nice bass head can I like to listen to if you can stretch that budget like $10 and use the new user coupon on massdrop is the meze 99 noir. Nice laid back but a really nice amount of thump when the song demands it.

Ohh wow ok! I'll see if i can stretch my budget a tiny bit more... I don't really feel like paying $200 for just a pre-order though. I have zero patience so i want headphones asap.

It's alot of bass, but it's decent quality bass. It's not muddy like some headphones (Cough, beats...)

Had a typo that literally made the whole sentence have another meaning than intended.

I wanted to say "You only LOSE a little audio resolution and detail". I didn't want to say "You only USE a little".

Sorry for that.

Yeah i've had the Philips Fidelio X2's and they sounded great for being openback and i got surprised by how much better my DT770 Pro's sounded when i switched to them. Anyways thanks for the recommendation of those Meze 99 Noirs. I'll see in the coming days which headphones i'll buy. So many to choose from now!
