(The title may sound overly dramatic but here is my post explaining it)

Budget (including currency): £3000

Country: UK

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for:

OBS, Handbrake, Every game out there from simple RPGmaker to Maxed out mods Skyrim, Cyberpunk 2077, Warframe. Streaming VR also.

Every game I play is streamed, I am unable to game without streaming it.

Other details

This build is life support for me, it helps me deal with all my problems (Autism, PTSD, Bi-polar and ADHD among other things)  it is no way a exaggeration to say this computer keeps me going and alive every day, my Consultant wants to write a paper with me about how VR, social gaming and technology as treatment for mental illness and depression.

Current build

i7 8700k.

Gigabyte Aorus  Pro wifi

32gb 3200mhz DDR4

Samsung 950 Pro 512mb M2 OS drive

512gb Samsung SSD.

EVGA 1080ti FTW3

Panasonic HC-V770 camcorder for streaming/vlogging.

Audio-Technica at2020 mic,

Beringer Xenyx 502 mixer

DT990 Pro Headphones.

Corsair scimitar pro mmo gaming mouse.

Razer BlackWidow tournament edition Chroma V2 keyboard.

27" secondary Display Asus 1080p.

32" AOS 1440p ips led primary monitor. 75hz

Main issues, I need to be live and streaming a lot (you can tell how much my depression or other issues are hitting me by how many streams I do a day) Down time while I transcode the latest recorded stream to youtube is time I can't be gaming and taking my mind off other things.) I want to start doing my own intro's outro's and animations as well.

Secondary issue, this PC is going into the kitchen as a backup PC (the way my brain works is I need a secondary fully functioning PC just in case my primary fails for some reason, logic doesn't come into it)

Current secondary PC I am giving away to someone across the road (we live in a poor neighbourhood until last year this teenager had never had a PC, so I scrapped together an old system based around a barely still working 970, this year as a surprise I am giving him my old backup pc a i7-6700k 16gb 1080 build).

So what is the build I have decided on. A pure grunt work build that will cope with streaming high spec games, transcode, animation, everything. Items still needed are set to be bought on 14th.

AMD Ryzen 9 3950x

32GB corsair vengeance 3600mhz ddr4 (2 16gb)

Gigabyte Aorus Master x570.

Phanteks Enthoo Pro Large Tower Black. (already bought)

Sabrent m2 1tb (already owned) OS drive.

Samsung 1TB EVO SSD (already owned) Steam drive

Samsung 250gb EVO SSD (already owned) Extra game library drive.

2* 2TB mechanical drives to store raw footage while waiting to transcode/upload. (already owned)

DVD Burner (Ripping the rest of my movies to HD plex server)

1080ti from main PC as temporary Graphics card (an owned RTX 2070 will go into secondary PC)

Corsair RMx 1000w PSU (Yes it is excess power but I go by the idea of using less than the total available should mean quieter and cooler running.)

2 months later on my Birthday budgeted to buy a 3090 to top this system off.

Any mistakes ?

(I know this all may sound like a lot of expensive stuff only possible because when my Wife died I had a lot of technology and other items that I sold when no longer needed, I am unable to work and thus became very good at budgeting over the years).

nothing jumps out as really bad.

I'd suggest going for some of those external drives in the 8+ TB range and shuck them (remove them from the case) .. you can buy one for $150 or higher

145$ 8 TB : https://www.newegg.com/black-wd-elements-8tb/p/N82E16822234349

190$ 10 TB : https://www.newegg.com/black-wd-elements-10tb/p/N82E16822234350

The 8 TB and higher are supposed to be classic PMR/CMR drives, not SMR (which is much slower at writing to disk, regular reading is fast)

Saw a video just the other day with these:

If you record at high bitrates like 60-100 mbps for 1080p / 200-500 mbps for 4K, then 2 TB gets filled fast and for bulk storing of videos these are fine, you won't care if one of these breaks down as you won't store very precious data.

Hey, welcome to the forums! The 3090 will be hitting shelves at the end of the month, so why not wait to see if the Ryzen 4000 chips get announced? Chances are you'll get more for your money, and they're still vying for the gaming lead that Intel has with the 10600k, 10700k, and 10900k.

Hello :)

I thought about that but my brain is literally chomping at the bit, to build this PC, I don't mind that I am late to the 3950x party it will rock compared to what I have, so many rumors when it comes to the 4000 series  especially on launch date and so on, let us see what happens.

I wouldn't buy anything until the 3090 releases on the 21st of September. Buying a non 30 series gpu right now just would make no sense whatever (for your budget). Of course it would be good to see the performance reviews before buying too but it looks like a beast of a gpu for $200 more than the 2080ti.

Well, the 3950x was released 6 months after the first 3000 chips, so I understand. The reason I would personally consider it is that AMD's currently-released Ryzen 4000 APUs (OEM only) feature as many as 8 cores and 16 threads, twice as many as previous gen. I think it's reasonable to assume that the upcoming Ryzen 7 chips may have more than 8 cores on them, and whatever's replacing the Ryzen 9 3900 will outperform the 3950x.

I think there's a good chance we'll know something by the end of the month.

That said, still hard to go wrong with a 3950x.

Did I make a mistake in my convoluted post :), I said I am using my 1080ti and then getting a 3090 in November the 2070 is one I got very early in the year and is a spare.

ah ok i didn't see that, my mistake. Sounds like a good plan.  Might be worth seeing AMDs gpu offerings as they should be announced buy then.

also a reminder that if the performance turns out to be as advertised, you could get a 2080ti for ~$400
