3000 Series Cards PCIE 4.0

rpalmz46

Hey,

Basically the title says it all does anyone know yet if the 3000 series cards require you to have a PCIE 4.0  because I'm using the msi z370 gaming plus board and as far as I am aware it does not have one. Im not sure if by buying a 3070 or 3080 if I should upgrade my motherboard for this or not.

Thanks for any replies in advance.

They'd be shooting themselves in the foot if they did that consider no Intel system has 4.0.

I see I heard from a few sources people saying without 4.0 the cards wouldnt be as good or some shit just wanted to see if that was true i didnt think it would be the case

It isn't something Nvidia would highlight, so waiting for benchmarks from reputable reviews is the only way to know for sure if there is any performance impact.

Nvidia (and Digital Foundry) did their testing with a 10900K, so PCIe 3.0, and they'd obviously want to show off their new GPUs under the best possible scenario.

I see, that's good didn't really want to upgrade my whole system already thinking im going to need a new psu for my 3080 i may buy since i only have a 550w and my estimated wattage is 539 with a 3080

What exact PSU is it, and what other components are you running?

Sounds like a very good testing szenario for the LTT team and their ampere review

I'd say you'll be fine with your current config if you were to throw a 3080 in there.

The G2 is a solid PSU, and you most likely aren't getting an 8600K to pull over 100-115W with a Hyper 212.

Wait for actual reviews on the new GPUs though, to get real accurate power draw figures. Atm I'm just going off of Nvidia's numbers.

Yeah i know im under the expected wattage but from what I read most people said that you want to have like 50 more than you use but i dont know if thats 100% accurate.

It really won't, because it uses the extra bandwidth of the PCIe 4.0 to do direct transfer of files from your storage to the GPU, and processes them there. It speeds up loading times massively if you have NVMe storage and PCIe 4.0.
