The 30 series cards will sell out in seconds and I bet it will be months before they are back in stock. The 20 series will bottom out up until all the 30 series are sold out. Then 20 series will increase in price.

I agree that the 30 series cards will be difficult to obtain/overpriced for a good few months yet. I'm thinking that around December is when the price will level out as manufacturers try to get them out in time for the holiday season.
I don't see the 20 series increasing in price however, I think you'd have to be pretty desperate for a GPU to pay over the odds for a 20 series card in the next few months especially based on the predicted performance increases of the 30 series cards.

But what if you don´t have the system for a 30 series then?

It seems like people don´t take that into account.

A lot of users have a rig that´s either built or barely can run a 20xx card without a crazy bottleneck issue. If these people want to upgrade to a 30xx, that could also include a big purchase due to the need for a new rig as well.

Well, there's that of course - but I assume that the kind of people who will pay 500+ for a GPU already have a pretty high-end rig to begin with. Me, I'm just waiting to upgrade my 5700XT when the 3070 is available.

For me, i upgraded from a GTX 780 last Nov to my RTX 2070S, and i have had a blast.

The 3000 upgrade for me will be probably the 3070 one. And, to get some money back from my purchase, il be bundle selling the card with 2 monitors and cases.

You sound basically like the people i mentioned. Why try to make people feel bad?
Not everyone are out to force people to buy their used cards for 100% of what they bought it for in the first place. You must realize there are people out there generally just trying to sell on their cards for a reasonable sum without namedropping them.

I agree that dfsgsfa didn't put their take on the matter in the nicest way. But what they are saying is bluntly true. The only people who would pay the same or more than a 3070's price are those looking for sli support and maybe some rich enthusiasts who for some reason don't already have the 2080 ti (which amounts to about 5 people). The fact of the matter is that the 2000 series was indeed overpriced. That, in addition that the fact that the performance increase from 1000 to 2000 series cards was underwhelming led to disappointing sales for nvidia (Hence Jensen joking, 'To all my pascal friends, yes, its finally safe to upgrade' in the reveal). This is why I think it is very fair to compare someone who tries to sell their 2080 ti cards for 799+ to a scammer (regardless if they actually manage to sell it or not). They are trying to take advantage of people who are possibly not aware of the 3070's price or performance. $799 is NOT a 'reasonable sum' as you put it for a card that will very soon be outperformed by a $499 superior card. Perhaps you cannot come to terms that your card is now worth drastically less. But that is the nature of buying technology. There is innovation, and inevitably, your product will depreciate. I'd say that your 3070 is worth more than 200 (270?), but only until the 3060 releases. Better get rid of that card fast buddy.

I sure as hell wouldn't spend $500 on a 2080 or 2080Ti... Not when the 3070 is supposed to be just as fast

Hello,

so NVIDIA revealed their new GPUs and my only concern is this: Every 2 or so years I sell my old hardware for a good price and buy a new one. In 2018 I bought the RTX 2080 non Ti for about 800 USD and since the new RTX 3070 which costs 499 USD and is more powerful than the 2080 Ti, does this mean that 2080 Tis should be seen on the used parts market for less than 499 USD?! That is a big oof for the owners.

Wait and see until the reviews and tests are out.. ;)

I wouldn't sell your GPU now....

So many here in Sweden have already sold off their cards.

It´s just not worth the effort of trying to get people to slow down a bit. At the release of the 3000 series, the new complaint will be that no one warned them for selling their cards early 🙄
