Hey everyone, so I'm upgrading my current Ryzen 3 2200G to a Ryzen 9 3900X, but I'm worried my system will be bottlenecked by said upgrade as my GPU is a 1650 SUPER. Would that cause issues or should I be fine?
Also, my GPU is overclocked. Corespeed is at 1530MHz, memory speed is at 7400MHz.

Why are you upgrading?

Bottlenecks depend on workload, resolution, and a variety of other factors. It's not a on-off switch.

Your system will not become broken from an upgrade, and you can upgrade the GPU later if you choose to do so.

Main: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti, 16 GB 4400 MHz DDR4 Linux - Fedora

Yea there's more to a gpu than clock speeds lol.

Why do you need a 3900x exactly? Workload?

Bottleneck is always a thing, some workloads are cpu bottlenecked and others are GPU but in this case, what's your workload and why do you need a 3900x? Because if you're just gaming you're better off getting a 3600 and a better GPU as games don't scale up to 12 cores and the 3600 will perform similarly in games.

Of course I play games a lot on my system, but I also do editing and animating so I'll need a beefier CPU. That, and future proofing a little never hurts.
As for GPU upgrade, I'm just waiting for the new 3000 series GPUs to be released so the 2000s will drop a little in price, but thats for the future.

I'm aware of that, just informing you since I OC'ed my GPU -_-

In all honesty future proofing isn't really a thing.

Depends on the scale of the project, a 3600 or a 3700x could be more than enough for this workload, and are still a pretty huge upgrade over the 2200g and pairing that with a better GPU is going to be more beneficial for you.

Thats what I'm planning to do, I just dont have the money for a new GPU, plus I'd rather wait a bit for the new Nvidia GPUs to release so the 2000 series cards drop in price.

Well as I said, a 3600/3700x could be more than enough for that task depending on the scale of the project, and if you're waiting for ampere and big Navi i'd also wait for zen 3.

Yea that board can't handle a 3900x and will throttle the cpu.

I'm not too sure if there's a update for A320 to support 3000 series.

Edit: there isn't, apparently. From my 10s Google search

But even if there was, I don't think this board can support the power for 3900x

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

ASUS ROG Strix B450-F,

Pretty overpriced board and isn't really that good.  Something like a Tomahawk max or an a pro max or a pro vdh max or a pro 4 is better and usually cheaper.

Not worth the extra money over a 3700x unless it was similarly priced.

What do you base that on? 🤔

That it's vrm is simply bad for its price and something like a b450 pro 4 which uses 3 SM4337 and 3 SM4336 preforms similarly and is a lot cheaper...

Budget for a board and are you limited to this one?

It's on a good sale right now, the website im buying components off got 15% off an upgrade kit which includes said motherboard, the Ryzen 7 and 16 gigs of 3200MHz RAM. It's a good deal, so might as well.

If it's a combo and you're limited to it I guess yea.

Otherwise I'd look at another board.

New plan then. I'll upgrade the motherboard to an ASUS ROG Strix B450-F, and the CPU to an AMD Ryzen 7 3800X. That should be compatible.

is youre going for a 3800x might as well get a b550 board

3800x is an overclocked 3700x
