USB pre-amp?

Chriz6097

Are there any usb pre-amps for usb microphones like an at2020 or blue snowball? I've noticed that shadow play barely can pick up my microphone even when I'm nearly eating the microphone. otherwise are there any software solutions?

You could possibly try recording speaker audio through a different software? Then edit the audio in? Just a thought.

I would do that but the reason I use shadow play is so that I can record whatever happens when I need to.

I wonder if plugging it into two ports would give it more power  like using a splitter cable.

Dude no. it doesn't work like that. USB mics send a digital signal over USB - there's a preamp and ADC built into the mic, and there's nothing you can do to change the way those work unless there's switches on the mic or software that came with it.

If you have a "Custom" tab under you microphone's properties, try enabling AGC:

But why?

because shadowplay can't hear me and the skype call will overpower my voice.

Sounds like a user error.

everything is maxed out but the .5 amps on usb doesn't give enough power to the microphone to get the gain I want.

1) Amps != power

2) .5 amps * 5 volts = 2.5 watts = plenty of power for a microphone

3) tell us what Mic you have and take screenshots of your audio settings - then maybe we can help

In the audio manager device (pictured in shearme's post) click on the communications tab and select the option to "do nothing" when a communications call is detected.  This might alleviate some of the issues you are having.

Perhaps turning down the volume of your game or other programs you are capturing audio from and then boosting the audio as a whole afterwards giving your mic a higher average level.
