Changing Routers settings

So a while back I got a new router/modem combo and put my old one away. I got is back out and plugged it into my new router/modem, but I do not know the password. How I change my existing router/modem settings is I enter the ip but I do not know the ip of the old one and I am assuming that is it the same ip of my existing router (sinced it is plugged into the existing one). So how I a supposed to change the settings?

From my knowledge these days it would be accessed through 10.0.0.1 in your web-browser of choice. But this information should be on the label or documentation that came with your modem/router combo.

On PC turn it to that the PC will ask for IP via DHCP then plug into the router you want to setup. See in adapter info what the IP is.
Use that as a start point.

Most common used ones:

192.168.0.1

192.168.0.254

192.168.1.1

192.168.1.254

10.0.0.1

10.0.0.254

When i ask for more specs, don't expect me to know the answer!

For future reference if you open up CMD on a computer plugged into the router and run the ipconfig command it will tell you your Default Gateway (the routers IP address).

If you forgot the login credentials you can always reset the router config or look-up the default credentials in the router manual.

Also note unless you set the router to bridged mode all devices connected to it will be behind a Double NAT. You won't be able to Port Forward or run some game and/or other services on these devices.

1:  Factory Reset

https://arris.secure.force.com/consumers/articles/General_FAQs/SBG6580-Factory-Reset

2:  After Rest completes.  plug ethernet into modem with a computer set to obtain IP address via DHCP.

3:  Open a command prompt.  Locate "Default Gateway"  (the IPv4 address.  I noted V6 and V4 below for your reference)

c:\ipconfig

C:\Users\ping>ipconfig

Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection* 10:

   Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . : REDACTED
   Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : REDACTED
   IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : REDACTED
   Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : REDACTED
   Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :

Ethernet adapter Bluetooth Network Connection:

   Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected

4:  Open a browser and enter the IPV4 Default Gateway address

example:  http://172.31.55.254

5:  Using the Factory Default Username and Password.  Logon to teh Surfboard.  Make your changes.

6:  MAKE SURE TO CHANGE DEFAULT PASSWORD before calling the task complete.
