Hello, is it ok to run a graphics card off of a pcie x16 slot that does not have a lock if the card is screwed in and in a custom loop so tubing also supports it? The card stuck when i was removing it and ripped the lock off my otherboard but so far everything is working fine but i;m just wondering if this can cause added stress onto the pcie slot long term

The majority of the purpose for the lock is not to provide mechanical strength, it's to make sure that the card is fully inserted.

As long as you can ensure that the card is fully inserted, then the slot having a latch, or not, is not relevant.

ENCRYPTION IS NOT A CRIME

Agreed with these guys^^, it should be fine.

I have a secondhand board with the same issue for a long time, it has a large asus strix card in it and I haven't had any issues. The pci connector is being sandwiched between a lot of pins inside the slot, so there is a fair amount of fiction, and the main screw to the case is doing most of the work. Also a pci slot is designed for devices to be connected and disconnected straight on and not at an angle, which is what would have to happen for it to come out in this scenario.

oh, then i get easier access to switch out gpus for benchmarking :D

But its still not fun breaking a part off of an aorus x570 xtreme that board costed $700...
