so i got some new krk rpg 5 gen 3 monitors. i also am running a M-Audio delta series interface. however when i plug a 3.5mm jack into the onboard audio i am getting a very clear static noise and its really annoying. i have tried plugging it into 2 other monitors, moving monitors away from electric devices, tried a TRS cable with no luck. however when i plug it into a laptop i got no static. same with phone. i am running a asus z270 f motherboard, i5 7600k at 4.6 ghz, rx 5700xt  and a corsair 550w power supply. (ik its little under powered for the set up but getting static when there's no load on anything. just spottily running. not sure what else to try apart from maybe getting a sound card but not sure if that will fix the problem.

hope someone can help me out thanks

it's a lot more power than you need. your rig will only consume 300 to 350 watts at load.

it's not a power load issue at least.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

ok though it was on limit as amd recommends a 600w psu. thanks anyways. any clue what could be causing the issue. i doubt its software as i reinstalled windows brand new along with everything else.,

My first guess would be motherboard audio problems, so a USB solution might help. Does a friend of yours have USB headphones or a dac you could borrow?

I have also tried 3.5mm headphones and not getting any static from them.

I think you found your problem but you havnt noticed.
"but as soon as i plug in my interface"

M audio delta series so a old pci insert card with a snake of cables sticking out the back or going into a big box.
Probably a iffy power supply.

Sounds like you could have dodgey cables or some ground loops going on, try using different cables and see if that helps.

tied different cables including the trs ones. even gone far as unplugging gpu and the audio plug in motherboard thinking that might be causing it but nothing. tried various 3.5mm stereo with different adaptors. also tried using a quarter inch mono plug into interface but still getting the static.

The only time you get the problem with when you use that computer?
Youve tried with a generic USB sound card problem continues.
My thought is if there is something dumping power onto the ground the USB will still use the ground as a reference for 0V so it could still continue the problem.

Im guessing theres no option on the M audio thing for a ground lift?

Ways around not using the ground from the computer is to use a DI or could use the optical output from the computer.

I personally have some KRK Rokit6 gen 3 (so very similar to you) and I use a interspace industries PC DI box and some XLR cables. It has a ground lift option.

This solves the problem if its a earthing issue which it could be.

If its not that the only thing going to solve this is to start ripping components out of the computer to check they arent doing anything and then finally my only guess is some sort of faulty software or motherboard.

If it is something component in the computer does the noise change sound when you are doing different tasks on the computer. IE using a CD drive, playing a game, when the fans start spinning, loading files from a certain harddrive.
