With the new NVidia GPUs set to be announced, and hopefully there will be a price drop in the older stock.. (well we can hope!) would it be a good time to consider upgrading to a 2xxx GeForce card? I currently have a Palit GTX 970 JetStream.  Coupled with my Ryzen 5 2600 I was wondering at what point in the range a GPU is considered overkill (outside of the 2080ti)?  I do gaming and photo editing using photoshop CC.  I have a 1080p 144hz panel.  My PSU is a Corsair CX550M
I was considering a budget £500 at the most.  Would it be worthwhile to go second hand? My current GPU was bought second hand but it was from a friend and I knew the history of it.

with a 500 pound budget you should be able to afford whatever the 2070s replacement will be (though take this with a grain of salt), waiting is probably the better decision.

I guess it depends on what kind of performance you need. 1660S is about 70% faster than a 970 and 2060/5600XT about 100%. Id pick a 2060 or rx 5600xt for under 300£ if you cant wait for the new gpu:s in 300-500£ price range to be released.

I have to echo this. No point in buying current GPUs, unless one really, really needs something right this moment and immediately. I've been saving up some money myself so I can upgrade from my 1080 to one or another 3000-series card, once they come up for sale.

Thanks guys.  I’ll see what the announcements are.  The 970 can can last me a few more months (I just Overclock it  and see If I can squeeze a bit more performance out of it)

I’ll be looking to get get 100fps+ on games high/ultra and to just improve my workflow on Photoshop and blender.

I also want something new and shiny
