I bought the 34 esport duo as it cool 5c less than the nh-d15 according to this comparison.

Is that a good choice to cool a stock 3900x ?

(also note that my 3900x will be bottlenecked by my 2133 mhz ram, but it shouldn't be too much of an issue according to this video)

More info I won't use it for rendering but for active work like this.

I actually expected 50% loss, so that's a good news !

Depends on the task but on average expect at least a 10-15% drop. Some rendering tasks and games have a far worse performance gap tho so depends on the things you do.

That's just false.

But it's enough for a 3900x.

May be the video isn't accurate but this is what is shown in it, FACT.

And I am actually wandering if I should not just send back the 34 esport duo and use the stock cooler that comes with the cpu ? So I can save money for other component ?

i mean the 34 will perform better than the stock cooler and will probably be quieter, depends on how much you value that.

I mean is it safe for active multi threaded task ? But not as full multi threaded as rendering ? In this video you have the exact utilization of the cores that I am going to do, does that heat a lot the cpu ? Could a stock cooler keep that under 60c ?

Nope sadly, but anything around 85c wont throttle the cpu.

but as i said..

To a certain point I guess.

A cpu running at 85c is completely safe.

No it isn't.

As I said it will run it cooler. Depends on how much you value that.

You could test with the stock cooler and check.

Or just watch an actual video from a reputable source and check temps with a stock cooler and decide.

Why is that video not reliable ?

And compared to intel's stock cooler how does the amd one compares ? Do they have the same performances ?

Intel's stock is worse.

As I said check how the stock performs and then decide if you want to return the cooler or not.

Saying that a d15 performs worse than a 34 is just wrong.

I never said that, the d15 does performs better !!! What I said is that it is 5c degree behind on one test, the gap is just not that big.

And the 34 esport actually keep a 95w cpu under 60c, which correspond to approximately the power used by an active stock 3900x. So it's very satisfying result !

yea as i said, if it's worth it or not depends on how you value that. but yea it's better than the stock cooler.

3900X is not a 95W cpu on stock. It might drop to it if thermals are bad enough but with a decent cooler it will be 140-150W:s on full load.

Yeah, stock 3900x goes around 142w according to ryzen master, 105w tdp, I did the math and according to it, the cpu will be arround 75c-80c if I engage it in a full-core sustained load (sustained 142w).

But I won't even do that, I'm just doing 3d modeling, not rendering.

UPDATE : I finally got my 3900x, tested it with the arctic duo and it hardly go over 75c (wavering between 50-65c most of the time) for what I do... In fact, the highest temp I managed to achieve was 77c (thou If i persist I am sure I can go higher), sound promising !
