What is the best router with good security?

AlwaysWong

What is the best or good router with good security and connectivity? Looking around $100 - $200. Under $100 is great. Suggestion and recommendation are welcome.

One that is Turned off and in the box, Hackers cant get in unless its turned on ;)

Generally most Routers are going to offer you pretty similar "security" features. You reallly dont need to spend more then 100$ on a router unless you are wanting a LARGE area covered and even then its better to do a multi router system.

I have these three on my list so far. Which one the best? Do you have any good suggestion and recommendation? I have never use 3rd party router at all.

NETGEAR Nighthawk Smart WiFi Router (R7000) - AC1900
ASUS RT-AC66U B1 AC1750 Dual-Band WiFi Route
TP-Link AC4000 Smart WiFi Router

I have the step down from the Netgear Nighthawk you listed. Its pretty good, I can recommend it, but if your walls are concrete like mine, the signal only goes through 2 before it breaks down.

If you really want the best for home wifi for not absurd prices, I would do:

And a bunch of these:

I recommend Netgear R6700 ( https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-R6700-Nighthawk-Gigabit-Ethernet/dp/B00R2AZLD2/ref=sr_1_1?crid=30DDOR4NPY5WR&dchild=1&keywords=netgear+r6700&qid=1597984889&sprefix=netgear+r67%2Caps%2C367&sr=8-1  ) and if you don't want to buy netgear or not currently available in you area I would get:

ASUS RT-ACRH17 - Sorry couldn't provide link.

     ASUS RT-ACRH13 - https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Dual-Band-Super-Fast-Gigabit-RT-ACRH13/dp/B01LXL1AR8/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=ASUS+RT-ACRH13&qid=1597985036&sr=8-1

D-Link DIR-842 - https://www.amazon.com/D-Link-DIR-842-Dual-Band-Wireless-AC1200-Gigabit/dp/B00PVDTRL4/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=D-Link+DIR-842&qid=1597985089&sr=8-3

Most consumer-grade routers have decent security. If you want more control, then a firewall appliance might be what you're looking for, like those from pfSense or Untangle. What kind of special security do you need?

And what do you mean by "connectivity"? Number of ports? WiFi?

Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X ($60) - A very powerful router with lots of features (especially under CLI); does not have a wireless access point.

MikroTik hEX S ($80) - I've never used this one but it's based on RouterOS; does not have a wireless access point.

MikroTik hAP AC ($114) - Same RouterOS as above, but includes a wireless AP that supports WiFi 5.

Netgate SG-1100 ($194) - A tiny but powerful device running the pfSense firewall; does not have a wireless access point.

Synology RT2600AC ($200) - A router/AP combination unit that actually performs better than standard consumer alternatives. Has WiFi 5, 4x4 MU-MIMO, and a package manager so you can add features as you need.
