Logitech mouse sometimes double clicks, support experience, alternatives?

porina

Have a Logitech G703. It's been great but started to double-click on a single click. Sometimes better, sometimes worse. Trend towards worse. It seems to be a widely reported problem with Logitech mice in general. Still in warranty so tried contacting Logitech support online and have a ticket in place since Monday. There was a last activity change on Monday so someone there looked at it, but I've heard nothing in the 2 days since then.

I just added another comment on the ticket essentially directly asking for repair/replacement but not a good impression to not get a reply of any form so far.

It is getting annoying enough I'm thinking of replacing the mouse. If I do, it is unlikely to be a Logitech. I have grown to love wireless though. Not having the cord being dragged around does free up movement. So are there alternatives with great wireless performance?

Gaming laptop: Lenovo Legion 5, 5800H, RTX 3070, Kingston DDR4 3200C22 2x16GB 2Rx8, Kingston Fury Renegade 1TB + Crucial P1 1TB SSD, 165 Hz IPS 1080p G-Sync Compatible

SteelSeries Rival 650 is good but after trying bunch of mices, G pro has the best preformance when it comes to games.

If you can deal with cords, look at Final mouse.

If you look at the body style of the G703, shape something like that. I wouldn't rule out bigger bodied mice but not my 1st choice.

If I were to get another Logitech mouse, I'd probably just get another G703 at half the price of the G Pro. Will consider the Rival 650.

I wont rule out corded as I still use corded on other systems. Just dropping the cord for gaming helps a little bit. In a quick look, Final Mouse doesn't look widely available where I am.

The double clicking G703 is a pain for "productivity" use, but doesn't affect gaming. Even if I can't get it replaced I could relegate it to a gaming dedicated system.

if you want something that wont doubleclick the basilisk ultimate may be an option, though its pricey. you could also consider the viper ultimate though that mouse is noticeably smaller and cost as much.

The Viper looks more in keeping with the style of the G703. Time to do some more research on it. Thanks.

The Viper is very low profile, so if you come from a G703 it will take some getting used to. The Deathadder v2 is closer in terms of size, but they still don't make a wireless version of it, although I think it's still worth checking out, because it has a pretty good and lightweight cable, not as good as wireless of course, but better than most wired.

At the time I only had the image to go by. Comparing the listed sizes, yup, the Viper is about a cm narrower. I think that's the biggest difference and would make it too small. The height difference was ball park 5mm and if that was the only difference I don't think it would matter. As you say, Deathadder v2 is close to G703 in size. As a corded mouse, also a lot cheaper than the equivalent spec wireless ones.

That difference may be small, but it is very noticeable in the hand. (Also partly because the Viper's hump is flatter and the G703 has more of an arch)

I think it's worth considering, can't double click and it's probably as close as you can get to a G703. If you really want wireless, I'd recommend the Basilisk over the Viper, as it will probably take less getting used to.

Also, more accurate shape/relative size comparison:

Nice site. I still think Deathadder is top running right now, and I find it interesting it has an asymmetric profile, but I don't think this in itself will be a problem. The Basilisk is trying too hard.

I have a Razer Mamba and G703 Light Speed paired together (I use the Mamba when gaming but the 703 when it's charging), very similar mouse shape and Synapse is miles better than G Hub.

I also replaced the Mamba's side grips with actual EPDM rubber cut to the same shape...super grippy...like "one finger can lift 10 pounds" grippy.

Try leaving your 703 in the sun for a bit...supposedly the double click is cause humidity.

I also have the Viper Ultimate (I'm a mouse keyboard slut) and it's a *really* small mouse.  It almost feels like it's meant to be a portable mouse.

There's pretty much no high end mouse / keyboard that I haven't tried from Logitech / Razer...probably.

A minor update for this thread.

Logitech support did come back to me, with a long list of things to try. I'll go through the motions to honestly say I tried it all, but I'm not optimistic. Actually, one setting may have helped a bit, but it isn't a solution. That's to change the double-click sensitivity in Windows to the fastest setting. The unwanted double click rate might have gone down, but it is hard to quantify, and it certainly hasn't gone away completely. Other things on the to do list include using/not using the software, different PC, you get the idea. They say if the steps don't resolve it, I should RMA through where I purchased from, which is understandable under UK consumer law, but policy can vary between manufacturers e.g. EVGA like to handle it themselves.

I've ordered the Deathadder V2 now. Can't have too many (good) mice, and I just want something that works in the short term, as who knows how long RMAs take.

Just a tip, if you want to speed things up, tell them that it's difficult to RMA from the store because of COVID/other reason or just ask them if you can RMA it directly through them. They'll probably ask for a picture of the receipt and maybe proof of the issue and ship you a new one without even requiring you to send the old one back.

(Also not sure if you should change your windows double click settings because it might introduce more latency, at least if you game a lot)

I'll keep that in mind. I have about 2 weeks before the product is one year old. The rules on returns are complicated and if I do anything, its best to be within that either way.

If anything since it shortens the window, it could reduce latency. For my gaming, mouse click latency isn't a big factor.

It has arrived. I haven't opened it yet while I get on with daily stuff. But soon...

I only went G703 as it was essentially the cordless version of the G403 I was using before. I actually have two G403s, the first one middle button stopped working outside warranty so I got another which still works ok.

I finally poked around the Logitech G Hub software and found how to save profiles to the mouse. This will make it easier to test it on other systems without software.

I have now also connected the Deathadder V2 to my main gaming system. The feel of the mouse will take getting used to. It feels smaller, yet based on the profiles before, it should be about the same. I suspect it may be down to the lateral asymmetry now not putting pressure on a part of my hand that I'm expecting. Just gotta use it and get used to it. The software is less annoying than G Hub, although why does everything have to persuade you for an online account? All I need to do is a one time settings change and adjust the colours to match the rest of my setup. Actually, I can probably disable the software now.
