Im planning to install X63 radiator at the front of my h510 case. Just wondering if there is any impact/improvement having both tubes (in/out) at the top or at the bottom of the radiator installed vertically.

My first thought is that hot water always goes up (also air) so maybe is better to have both in/out tube at the bottom, but idk if this topic was discussed before.

So far, all folks in YouTube are installing the radiator with the in/out at the top... so idk...

What do you think?

thanks in advance,

f

For an AIO having the tubes down is ideal in theory since it will ensure the tiny air pocket get trapped in the top portion of the rad to prevent noise if that air pocket were o make it's way back around towards the pump/block. However in most situations it's not really an issue even when installed up.

It will only fit with the tubes at the top of the case.

That's how the mounting holes are made, there is no other option.

Also there is space in the top compartments by the tubing inlet and outlet so the thing people are saying about air bubbles getting trapped also works with the tubing at the top, it does not have to be at the bottom.

Also the thing you said about hot water going up makes 0 difference in an AIO because of forced water flow with a pump.

Ther eis no natural convection.

So no, it does not matter for temps at all.

Having the tubes at the bottom is preferable if possible, so that air won't collect in the tubes, but rather in the end tank. Not killer though.

I agree for AIOs but with a custom loop I'd say getting the air out of the radiator is actually better, since you have a way to get rid of it in your reservoir - that is of course if it's mounted high enough.

Typically I mount rads after I've purged air out of them, and that's what I reccomend. That being said, for an open loop, you want the air to get trapped at the resevoir, not the rad. Build accordingly.

Building the loop outside of the case will only work with soft tubing. There's no chance of doing so with hardline. Regaring getting air out of the radiators and rather into the res, see my comment above: having the fittings on the top helps getting the air out of it - you can see the air escaping which will make it easier.
