Behringer U-Phoria UMC202HD (i want this one because it has 2 xlr inputs which i think is kinda nice if i ever have a 2nd person with me in the room )\

and these which are from my amazon cart https://prnt.sc/u0a565.

i want the mic for livestreaming and amatuer covers on youtube.

Anything like the AT2020, Rode Podmic, etc will do fine. I recently bought the MXL 770 (I got the Midnight Blue Special Edition) for my fiancee (I record her singing and piano with it) and it sounds awesome. It was $120 CAD.

There are a lot of good mics in that price range.

MXL 770

I own this mic (XLR version) and it's really nice. Very similar to the AT2020.

I own this and it's honestly fantastic. Well worth the money.

I just took a listen to the Samson Q2u. Sounds a bit tinny in my opinion and for the price I would go with the MXL 770 over that.

If you are willing to stretch your budget a bit more take a listen to the TZAudio Stellar X2. Seriously, insane audio quality for the price and it will be my next microphone purchase.

Agreed. In the process of putting together a basic home studio for my fiancées singing. I did a lot of research and comparisons and the MXL 770 was the best choice I could find given availability and price.

Don’t regret it at all.

Do you use it in a DAW or just as an interface in recording/streaming software?

This is my next planned upgrade. Right now we are just using the Zoom H4n Pro as a recorder and copying the files into a DAW). We use it as an interface for Zoom calls when needed. Eventually I’ll start learning and experimenting with using the Zoom as an audio interface and direct recording to the DAW. That way we can record piano or other instrument first, then play it back and record vocals into a new track.

Right now I direct capture the piano into the Zoom, with the 770 in the other input, and then we record video with an iPhone XR. Do a clap with both recording and it’s easy to sync them.

But it’s not as flexible as DAW recording.

Eventually we will replace the H4n with a dedicated Audio Interface. I was looking at the 2 channel or 4 channel Beringer.

If you're looking for a mic I have a detailed guide / recommendation list on the link in my signature so you might want to take a look at that.

The big thing to remember is background noise, LDC mics like a V67 (or like the 2020 and 770 pretend to be) will pick up a lot of background noise while most SDC mics are supercardioid (highly directional) so background noise is mostly mitigted, for most background noise deletion a dynamic mic is best. If you're looking for a comparison between these three styles I have audio files for each in that link too to help decide which is best for you.

As far as mic choice goes, the 770 is much better than the 990 and the 2020 isn't great, If you're not afraid of buying used an MXL V67 or Rode NT1 might be in your price range otherwise the Behringer C2 or one of the cheaper ISK mics might be your best bet. For slightly more money the 3U Audio CM1 is a damn good mic but pushes just out of your price range (it's around 100 USD). Otherwise keep an eye on Ebay, I have more than a few nice mics from the scumbags there and a couple from local classifieds too.

Being dynamic it may benefit from an inline preamp like a Cloudlifter or Klark Teknik CT1 but yeah, from what I've heard it sounds good for the money

The AT2020 is a good mic. It’s definitely not “bad”.

But there are other mics for similar price that are better.

To build on this, it's certainly nowhere near as bad as something like an 'eBay special' BM/NW 700/800 but there are so many decent mics near the $100 mark that the basic electret 2020 doesn't really compete with.

For instance, the MXL V67 and 770 have found their place in more than a few budget studios but even they don't compete with things like used ADK A51/A6 mics or even the new 3U Audio CM1 which is $116 and a damn good mic in its own right even when you completely ignore the price.

Other things that I consider to 'beat' the 2020 at its price range (or lower) are the ISK Pearl, Little Gem and BM series. Behringer C2 holds its own fairly well and even your generic CAD 2200 can be considered an outright better mic than the 2020.

In the end it's not a bad mic, it's just not the best mic you can get for that money.

Oooooh boy - I know looks are subjective but that looks awful. Borderline vomit inducingly cringe.

With that in mind, checking some reviews say that they're actually decent. They were created by the co-founders of Blue Microphones (the people behind the Yeti/Snowball, etc - though I have no idea if the co-founders were specifically involved with the design of those 2 mics).

So if you can stomach having that.... thing... on your desk, it's certainly an option.
