Core i7 3770k Overclocking

I managed to Overclock my core I7 3770k to 4.4ghz, and it was very stable. So I decided to Overclock it a little bit more, however no matter how much I raise multiplier cpu-z tells me I am still at 4.4ghz. Any idea of what is going on?

try to update to the latest bios. also try to raise the multi to like no bootable (7 ghz or whatever). If it boots, you are limited by numbers and not heat or temps.

You might be going too far and the BIOS is going back to previous settings and rebooting without telling you.

You have Z77 board?

Yes. An Asus p8z77 v Pro. I managed to get 4.5 ghz by ramping up the bus speed to 103mhz

Seeing as it's an asus board it would should set everything for you if you leave it to auto and just set the multiplier. You said you were setting it higher than x44 you weren't trying for 5Ghz were you?

lol that would only be 6.3ghz..........  . it probably needs more voltage to reach higher clock speeds. also only go up 100mhz at a time to test stability, because you can't just put in 4.9ghz and expect the auto voltage to set the voltage correctly, its more likely to 1) use way too much voltage and kill the chip or 2) refuse to put the silly amount of voltage through (which is better than 1).

Just refresh CPUZ and it should show you the correct frequency. These OC monitoring software get mild heart attacks every so often and needs a refresh to start acting right.
