What settings/resolution are you playing at and getting such low FPS? With a 2070 you should be getting way more in Fortnite.

To answer your question, why 60 or 240? Both are definitely a bit extreme, why not a 144Hz? It's much cheaper than 240Hz while also being much smoother than 60Hz. You can also find 1440p/144Hz monitors for less than 1080/240 if you want to play at a higher resolution and have more detail. If you are competitive, 240Hz is definitely better though.

I'd recommend 1440p 144Hz instead of 1080p 240Hz.

But to answer your question, yes, you can use whatever refresh rate you want.

AFAIK the only way to eliminate screen tearing is to buy a G-Sync/Freesync monitor and using that functionality while capping your framerate to 237. (So that it doesn't exceed the adaptive sync range, which for most monitors is 30-240Hz if I'm not mistaken) If your framerate is lower or higher than your refresh rate you will get screen tearing, I think.

@PCGuy_5960 does rtx 2070 support g-sync

Yes, I think pretty much all nvidia GPUs support it. The monitor should also be G-Sync compatible so that you can enable G-Sync though. (If I'm not mistaken, you can enable G-Sync on most Freesync monitors too)

@PCGuy_5960 Do I need display port 1.4 or 1.2 on rtx 2070 to enable g-sync

I don't think it makes a difference, but I'm not sure. Most displays come with a displayport cable in the box, so just use that.
