Monitor arm and IKEA desk

Hello, so i was thinking about buying an monitor arm for my 2 x 27" monitors, but i dont know if my desk will be able handle it. or should i just go with an wall mount instead and does anyone have an 2 monitor arm they could recommend (not too expensive)

 

I got an ikea linnmon 200x60cm thats supported by 2 Alex shelfs and a single leg in the middle 

 

ive read that the linnmon desk is supported on the middle where the leg is suppost to be mounted but im still curious

It depends how wide the arm's footprint is on the desk (on both sides). If the weight/force is distributed over a big area it might work. (sorry for the bad english).

The linmon is not made from solid wood so it doesn't sound very sturdy to me.

Maybe use 2 arms? I use 2 arms and I like the flexibility.

It would have supported it, though I probably would have put a piece of plywood underneath to help distribute the weight.

Your desk is basically made of cardboard.

Although a lot of their products are made of particle board, they seem to be made very well. We have ikea bookshelves and an entertainment center that is quite sturdy.

It's very thin laminate with cardboard honeycomb on the inside. It's not meant to support a lot of weight in a concentrated area.

I'd say, if these are just flat screen monitors, he'll be fine. If they are the old school crts, then yeah...I wouldn't trust it.

 

But, you're right...a piece of plywood underneath wouldn't hurt

If he's using a single arm that's like 60-70 lbs on a single point. The entire desk only supports 110. It's not going to end well over time.

I don't know if 2 flat screens weigh that much...but it looks like be went with a wall mount anyways. Probably a good idea
