Hi, i have an issue with my rig, this is driving my crazy but i got a pretty new pc (1 year or so) and this are the specs:

CPU: Intel I7 8700

GPU: ASUS Nvidia 1080 TI

RAM: 16 gb DDR4 Single Channel 2900 mhz

Every component has the latest update available (windows, gpu, cpu, etc)

The thing is, EVERY game i play on 1080p has the same issue: The CPU usage is higher than the GPU, sometimes by a huge percentage while other times it's a smaller range

I dont know what to do about it, whenever i go to 2K or 4K (using Nvidia DSR) the GPU fires up sometimes at 95% or 99% but at those resolutions the fps take a huge hit, wich is not ideal, considering the fact that i have a 1080p monitor.

What should i do? This is driving me crazy and i dont want to play on 2K or 4K, there's gotta be another solution right?Untitled_2.thumb.png.c4f891f790bb3cef05841c82e0648703.png

You mean this?

Okay, something's not right there. You are only at the base frequency with zero turbo.

Check your windows power plan first. Make sure you aren't on power saver or something.

Check this stuff too:

If all looks right there, we may have to edit some BIOS settings. What motherboard do you have?

You may want to upgrade your RAM to dual channel, since this doubles your RAM's bandwidth.

Other than that, this looks like a classic bottleneck. Your CPU is at it's limit, so it can no longer provide data to the GPU fast enough for the GPU to run at optimal performance. Meaning you'd need a faster CPU to pair with that 1080 Ti. (Didn't notice the CPU didn't boost, so it should be fast enough when this is solved)

The reason why increasing the resolution helps is, it puts more stress on the GPU, so it requires data from the CPU less often, so your CPU is no longer stresses as much.

My first suspicion would be thermals tbh, so I'd look at temperatures and check whether the CPU is thermal throttling because it doesn't get enough cooling.

This isn't true. Read the thread.

You certainly don't need faster than a 8700k to pair with a 1080ti. What are you talking about?

Thats a CPU bottleneck for you. Sell the MB and CPU and spend dome money on Ryzen 4000, though it shouldnt be that bad something is wrong, there shouldnt be thst big of a gap.

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

I didn't notice the CPU wasn't boosting. Already updated my post. But as it is right now, it is a bottleneck. Due to the lack of boost, the CPU is at its limit. So as I said, I'd check thermals.

No, your thermals are fine.

What motherboard do you have?

Yeah both the CPU and GPU never go above 40 C -45C so the thermal are not an issue, i make sure of that every time i play.

Whoa, first of all weird combo with a non-k chip. lol. *shrug*

Have you touched any BIOS settings in the past? If so, start with resetting all BIOS settings.

If you have never touched BIOS settings from stock, flash the motherboard with the latest version.

tbh i might have done some stuff with the fans speed or something, i dont remember, so i'll try both

And thanks for the help, this is really driving me crazy
