MB help needed please.

Hey yall. 

 

I would  appreciate a little help with new MB I got. 

 

I have a ASUS B550-E,

And it has a EAXT -additional 4 pin connector.  On my old MB ASUS hero 7, there is only 8-pin. 

I just wanna make sure, that I connect the right cables. 

 

My PSU has - 6+2PCI-E &4+4 CPU output connector. 

I have the 4+4 connected to Asus hero 7. 

So to connect to B550-E , I would need to connect the  6+2PCI-E + 4 pin CPU ?!  Correct?

 

 

 

 

Another question is, in regard to the M.2 ssd slot.

I have the 970 Evo Plus NVMe M.2

It is stated that M.2_1 Slot supports PCIe 4.0 x4 

And                  M.2_2 Slot supports PCIe 3.0 x4 

 

Does it matter where I place the ssd I have, or not?! 

Supporting PCIe 4.0 x4  does it mean I need to use it only with supported ssd , or it also can used for PCIe 3.0 x4

1.  Only the 8 pin eps is necessary. The extra 4 pin isn't. And is only used for heavy overclocking. 

2. The first m.2 is gen 4 and is connected to the cpu while the second one is gen 3 and is wired to the chipset. (since b550 only gives out gen 3 lanes).

I mean it won't hurt if you wire it to the cpu. 

If you place the m.2 in the second slot (the one wired to the chipset) two SATA ports will be disabled. (Specifically says 5/6).

Yeah, I am aware of that.

 

But what would you do?

Where would you connect the SSD?

Also, aren't both of them are wired to CPU? I missed the part where it says they aren't

Iirc you have a 3700x at least going back to your original threads. If so a single 8 pin eps provides 384w of power, so even a hammered 3700x won't come near that.

I am asking, only cause I wanna know. 
I would like to understand.

Pcie connector wouldn't work. 

You will need an additional 4 pin eps connector from the PSU. But again, not necessary.

You'd need a new PSU which has 2 8pin EPS connectors. The PCIe connectors are not suited for the EPS connector.

PCIe cables not compatible with EPS that you use for powering the PSU, you'll short it out.

 

Extra 4pin is just a gimmick. Even a 3950X doesnt draw enough power when overclocked to need it unless you start pouring liquid nitrogen or dry ice over it
