i3 10100 or r3 3100?

i have a budget of $500 and i want to be able to play apex legends, minecraft, and stream

if you're strictly limited to these two. i would say the 3100/3300x, i would assume you're going to pair it with a b or an h series board, and that platform ( h and b boards) are terrible, i would go with a 3300x if possible, or a 3100 if not and get a decent b450 board like a pro 4.

I'd look for an Optiplex with an i7-3770 in it, and throw in a 1650 Super or 1660, an SSD and an extra 8GB of RAM is it only comes with 8GB in the first place.

$500 is really tight for both gaming and streaming with new components.

Intel iGPU is potato get the Ryzen or Intel F model with graphics card...

Availability on the R3 3100 seems like a problem, especially at MSRP. If you have a Micro Center near you with the R3 3100 in stock you could pick it up for $130 which isn't too bad. Grab a decent cheap board like an ASRock B450 Pro4 mATX and 16gb of at least 3200 mhz ram. Cheap storage, case, power supply, maybe an RX 570 for $130 as well. I think that should be around $550 as of right now. An i3 10100 and a cheap H410 board could push that down towards $500. From what I've read, the performance delta between the R3 and i3 isn't crazy, and both should be plenty good with a budget-oriented GPU. If you're looking for the most performance right now, I'd agree with Mateyyy. An i7 optiplex with a better GPU will be better today, but going new gives you a better upgrade path.

That is a nice plan on paper but most sticks struggle to hit 3000MHz on that board...
