Asus B450-F memory compatibility

Hi!

My setup:

ROG Strix B450-F Gaming

Ryzen 7 2700X

HyperX Fury DDR4 2666MHz 16GB (2x8GB)

Just received some used ram modules from my brother who is doing an upgrade.

So i got 2 more of the exact same ram modules.

I found on Asus site that the mobo is only compatible with 2 modules and not 4.

I have read on some forums that this might be fixed with BIOS updates.

Tried every ram module in every slot and they work. Whenever I insert more than 2 modules the computer does not boot.

This seems to be accurate with the compatibility on Asus site.

Just wondering if there is a workaround, or I'm better off selling the ram modules and buying a 2x16GB set instead.

Thanks for any help!

Does the new kit work by it self? Does every combination with the new kit not boot?

Some RAM kits do not takes well to mixing and matching. That's why we recommend kits, not single dimms

Just thought it might work because the two separate kits have the exact same model number.

Do the new sticks boot if you take out the old ones?

Yes, I can boot with new sticks. It even boots with one old and one new. But not with all 4.

Yes, the kit works by it self. And even one new and one old will boot.

Clear the cmos.

And try with 3 sticks. Generally just try with one stick at a time.

I have installed my old sticks in A2 and B2. Tried one new module in both A1 and B1, but still no boot. Then the LED next to the modules stay orange, which indicate ram issues.

Also cleared cmos in-between the swap. I did see the "you need to enter BIOS settings before booting" when it booted successfully with the original 2 sticks, so the clear CMOS definitely worked.

Highly unlikely to fix it but you can try re seating the cpu.

You can try all modules in a different system and check.

Will try both and report back, but don't have access to another system today.

Thanks for the suggestions so far
