Just bought a fancy set of 16gb 3600 trident z royal and went to up the clock speed to the right amount. But when I went to boot after a quick trip to the bios I was left with an error screen and my memory being sent back to 2133. I looked it up and I saw a bunch about DOCP which I have but also xmp which just doesn’t show up for some reason

im running an asus b450-f gaming with trident z Royal 3600 16gb ram.

am I missing something or did I waste my money on an upgrade

DOCP is an Asus thing. Its exactly the same as XMP. Technically XMP is an intel thing, but all other brands besides Asus for whatever reason stayed with XMP instead of something else.

your chip probably cant run it. For Zen + you only need 3200mhz, so getting a 3600mhz kit is way overkill. The IMC on Zen and Zen + werent the greatest, especially with higher speed memory kits without a ton of tweaking in timings and voltages.

Ok, well I plan to upgrade cpu down the road here and I had less than 3000 before. Got a great deal on it too and looks good in the case. Thx for the help.

What I would do, go download the Ryzen RAM calculator and get a baseline timings for 3200mhz on your board/CPU and try tightening your timings manually based on the information it calculates.

Interested in the memory part number. The timings in the original post are CL18 and not CL16.

The only memory that might clock well on the 2700X is B-Die sticks with timings of 16-16-16-16-36.

Running 18-22-22-22-42 would be counter productive despite having a little better bandwidth from sheer clock speeds.

Zen+ as mentioned good for 3200mhz is actually a false statement. The cpu memory controller is good for up to 2933mhz and beyond that is an overclock.

And the Dram Calculator isn't going to help this particular situation. If the system cannot run the memory at XMP, there's no point in trying to tweak or overclock with the suggestions the calculator makes. Really will be a waste of time here.

@ShrimpBrime Correct, I only mentioned 3200mhz because thats generally the sweet spot that can usually be achieved majority of times when "overclocking" the memory.

Much respect. I understand, work with whatcha got.

Just sad to see people buying into a frequency they cannot have.
