Is this setup bottlenecked?

I am using a Del optiplex 7010 board. I had a 1050 for 2 years and now I did an upgrade to a GTX 1660 SUPER. The thing is that I don´t feel a lot of boost on performance.

I used to play at 1600x900 in mid-high, now it's 1080p in high-ultra but getting almost the same performance. Temps are good too, CPU at 69° while gaming and the GPU never pass the 70°. My setup is:

Core i5-3550 

16GB DDR3 1333 

GTX 1660 SUPER 

500GB 7200RPM HDD (main) 

Bootleneck calculator says that is 32% bottlenecked but don't know if it's accurate. 

I can upgrade to a core i7-3770. 

Or is a better investment to buy a Ryzen motherboard instead?

I'm inclined to say yes. The 3550 is slower than a Ryzen 3 1200 and very obsolete by modern standards. I expect some AAA games won't even work

Yeah, in games the thing at 100% is the CPU. And the SSD will be my next upgrade.

That depends on your budget. You'll be able to get much more out of your GPU with a 3770, but that will be a dead-end.

 

A new AMD motherboard would open up upgrade options going forward, but would be more expensive and wouldn't get you that much more out of your GTX 1660 Super.

yea that cpu is getting old, so i wouldnt be surprised to see recent titles struggling to run well on it

depends on your budget and pricing of the 3770 (or 4770/4790 maybe??) at where you're from

Depends on the game ya play? For best results with most games is 8-threads or more but with that GPU 4c/4t is fine for most games.

Different platform. 3XXX is LGA 1155, 4XXX is LGA 1150.

I saw the video that linus did featuring an i7 3770 in an optiplex too. 

Now I just need to find a good motherboard and CPU and RAM. I already have the case and the PSU.

And @Moonzy the i7 3770 is $100 US Dollars in Mexico.

100$ for that anemic i7 is insanity. The 3300X is 120$ and performs about 40% better on average.

Don't waste your money on Ivy Bridge i7s. They're already not enough for many modern games - it's just going to end up being replaced soon. Save up and get a Zen 3 CPU in two-three months.

I was searching on the used market and found this Ryzen 3 1300X, Asus Prime B350M-A and 16GB Kingston DDR4 for $200 US dollars and grabbed the deal! (Hope it was a good deal considering my inflation levels)
