CPU and Motherbnoard COMBOO

Budget (including currency): 2800

Country: Malaysia

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Only Games for now,may get into streaming.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): 1080p 144hz

Im planning on a new pc build and the pricing of CPU's in Malaysia is a little funky here are the pricings

Ryzen 3 3100=RM439

Ryzen 3 3300x=RM649(More freaking expensive than 9400f wtf)

Ryzen 5 3500x=RM629

Ryzen 5 3600=RM769

Core i5 9400f=RM618

Core i5 10400f=RM729

Tbh the pricing here is just so stupid.Im pairing this with a GTX 1080 zotac amp that i got for a good deal.

I was thinking of going for the 10400f since it is faster than the 3600.but the lga 1200 motherboards in my country is also quiet expensive.Any opinions?

I would go for AMD. Especially because you plan on streaming in the future.

Of the AMD CPUs, I would get the 3600 and pair it with a budget to mid-range motherboard.

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

Im not a fanboy or anything i go for the one that has best price/performance.Why should i go for the 10400f since i see that 10400f usually outperforms the 3600

Im not looking to upgrade cause i started with a 750 computer and sold it for higher and higher which i turned out to have right now a 3300x(when the price was reasonable)and a 1070 so im just gonna selll the whole pc and get a new one.

It actually doesn't. The 3600 is faster or on par. GamersNexus did an extensive video and basically stated the 10400 is dead on arrival.

Besides, the 10400F means you will likely be locked to 2666 memory. That will really cripple its performance. Add to that the fact that you can't overclock or tune anything and the 3600 starts out faster and can only get faster if you invest time into it.

The 10400f will get you a few extra frames when gaming, but AMD is much better with multi-threaded applications (like streaming). Also the 10400f will most likely need an aftermarket cooler while the 3600 stock cooler is quite good. That adds to the cost of the intel.

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

Thanks for the replies,i was wondering how well does the 3500x overclock(b450m pro4) and when it does how does it compare against the 9400f.Cause those are the ones which suits the budget more

The 3500X is, again, better. It's clocks end up similar to the 3300X.

The intel locked CPUs are just not worth even considering. The only reason a 10600K or 10700K can get 2-3% ahead of Zen 2 in games is because they can be pushed to 5GHz+ at 200-300W power draw

@LeDetructorhttps://www.techspot.com/review/2032-intel-core-i5-10400/

From the review:
As you just witnessed, when it comes to gaming performance the Core i5 processor is roughly on par with the 3600, while for productivity tasks AMD's offering is often up to 10% faster while consuming a similar level of power. If you will be adding a graphics card to your build, then the slightly less expensive i5-10400F should prove a better value. Thus, you could argue the price difference between the AMD and Intel processors is a wash.

"Assuming decent Intel B460 motherboards can match the B450 Tomahawk in terms of quality and features, that’ll see the 10400 cost about the same as a Ryzen 3600 rig but limited to DDR4-2666 memory, where it was typically slower than the 3600 in games, and up to 20% slower in applications."

So i should get a 3500x with a b450m pro4 right.Is 6c/6t really enough

No, the 3600 is the best value. 6/6 is already struggling in some games.

Ill see how the budget works out,if i really struggle will the 3100 be a bottleneck to the gtx 1080

Probably not. Though It's only as fast as a 6700K
