How to overclock AMD graphics?

Helpful Tech Witch

I have a RX480, and I want to be able to squease as many frames out of it as possible before I start running it at 1080p. Every time I try anything but the auto overclock, I get an unstable mess. How do you overclock on the newest adrenaline software?

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

same with Nvidia. use msi afterburner.

set power and temp limit to the max. enable voltage in msi afterburner settings and put the voltage slider to max. then start slowly overlcoking the core clock and mem clock

Same as any other gpu?

Set the power limit to max and then up the clocks by like 100mhz and memory frequency by like 150 or just small steps and if you have control over the voltage. Increase it a bit only when needed.

PC: Motherboard: ASUS B550M TUF-Plus, CPU: Ryzen 3 3100, CPU Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34, GPU: GIGABYTE WindForce GTX1650S, RAM: HyperX Fury RGB 2x8GB 3200 CL16, Case, CoolerMaster MB311L ARGB, Boot Drive: 250GB MX500, Game Drive: WD Blue 1TB 7200RPM HDD.

Peripherals: GK61 (Optical Gateron Red) with Mistel White/Orange keycaps, Logitech G102 (Purple), BitWit Ensemble Grey Deskpad.

Audio: Logitech G432, Moondrop Starfield, Mic: Razer Siren Mini (White).

Phone: Pixel 3a (Purple-ish).

DOnt use afterburner for AMD card. Afterburner only uses P7 state

Use the amd drivers and tweak all of the PStates. Clocks and voltage related to Pstate.

Put 50% powertarget and start lowering the voltage until the clocks start droping, now you know how your card realates to the voltage.

Then start increasing the clocks until you got to the point were even if you put more voltage the clocks dont go up.

For the memory is a bit more complicated, with HWInfo you can see at X speed if the memory is droping errors like crazy its the last line on the gpu bit.

Like this on my rx480 I was doing 1500mhz and 2000mhz vram. Watercooled

Anything above 1366mhz(like anything) crashes for me. I'll try your idea.

I get to 1100mV and it becomes unstable. So that's .87mV for every MHz.

Edit. This card hates ocing. I put it up to 1366 and it crashes. I'll just have to auto oc. stock is 1266.

I could use some help with this!

You can still do undervolt , And just get better temps.

Oc the vram , normally that gets better performance on the Polaris cards

Do leave it at the minimum voltage before the crash?

I've been able to get some ocing done. It's more stable if I don't max the power limit.

Which model RX-480 do you have (make and model) ?

Some cards with different cooling / PCB designs will overclock better than some others.

Best to go through AMD's software, rather than through MSi Afterburner, especially with the newer cards with different power states, etc.

Do not use the auto-overclock option, rather, learn how to manually overclock.

The auto-overclock is not...really dependable...

Keep in mind, the RX-480, along with the newer GPUs (from both AMD and nVidia) will already "auto overclock" / "boost' themselves, when temperature / power allows.
