I have blocked 10 windows domains...no issues yet?

Dravinian

Anyone got any idea why I shouldn't be blocking these?

tile-service.weather.microsoft.com

settings-win.data.microsoft.com

service.weather.microsoft.com

array501.prod.do.dsp.mp.microsoft.com

array502.prod.do.dsp.mp.microsoft.com

kv501.prod.do.dsp.mp.microsoft.com

disc501.prod.do.dsp.mp.microsoft.com

geover.prod.do.dsp.mp.microsoft.com

livetileedge.dsx.mp.microsoft.com

tlu.dl.delivery.mp.microsoft.com

So far, everything still works.

I suspect I might have an issue when I go to update windows, but honestly, these things are pinging out 500+ times a day and nothing has stopped working yet. Still have email, word, excel, and windows is working just fine.

I am going to just keep blocking them all until something stops working, but it amazes me that I need to ping several different servers 500+ times a day.

A least a few of those are weather services based on the addresses. Some of it is for edge/start tiles and some for location services I imagine.

For reference, the required domains for MS Update are:

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

http://*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com

https://*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com

http://*.update.microsoft.com

https://*.update.microsoft.com

http://*.windowsupdate.com

http://download.windowsupdate.com

http://download.microsoft.com

http://*.download.windowsupdate.com

http://test.stats.update.microsoft.com

http://ntservicepack.microsoft.com

You can block all other domains and Windows Update will still work.

Thanks for that, when the time comes I will whitelist them.

Because I would rather not be sending unknown data to Microsoft 500 times a day?

Seems like a good reason.

You can use the "metered connection" option to cut down on the telemetry data, allegedly.
