Does anyone have experience with Toshiba backup software?

I've had a Toshiba Canvio 1tb external drive for a few years, but haven't used it in a while. I plugged it in tonight, the computer recognizes it, and I ask it to do a backup; No dice. It sits there forever until the drive turns itself off. I tried restarting, nothing. I then read about disabling (temporarily) the acoustic management that shuts the drive off, it runs for a while longer and then does the same thing, backup eternally stuck at 0%. I can read the drive, it's accessible through Windows Explorer, so I very much doubt there's a physical problem with the drive. Is this software just shit? With task manager pulled up the software is using 30% of a 7600k at 4.4ghz, but drive activity on the external and my system drive is near 0%.

 

Currently there isn't a problem with this computer, so should I just format it and try something else for my backups? Any suggestions?
