How do I remove this cooler heat sink?

Hi all,

I am currently trying to disassemble some old (10+ years) desktops and am stuck on this heat sink. Has anyone encountered something like this or know how to remove it?

What does the back of the motherboard look like?

I believe you have to remove the 2 clips on the sides and it should release it and allow you to pull it out of the carrier frame it sits in.

Do you know how I can remove them? I’ve tried  push/pulling in all directions.

it looks similar to an old AMD system. Try pushing down on the black finger press until it releases from the tab similar to how old AMD retention clips worked.

Try pushing the black tabs a bit and while doing so, push the vertical bits of metal in towards the heatsink.

Just tried that, it goes all the way down, but nothing comes loose. Thanks for your suggestion though! I believe it’s an old Celeron or pentium of that helps.

The vertical medal moves so it is almost flush with the heat sink, but it is still stuck in the motherboard. Thanks for your suggestion though!

Can you get a picture of the side of the heatsink? Specifically like it's oriented in the first picture, but just on the side of it.

Try squeezing the long arm too and pull the tab up.

can you take some pliers and pull it out of the frame?

I was able to pry it off with force by pushing the pins on the bottom with a metal tool from Ifixit. Probably not the way it was supposed to go, but it worked. Thank you for your help @Godlygamer23, @vong, and @Skiiwee29!

I thought those arms were 2 seperate pieces, new pictures had me confused. Looks like you need to push the tab down and maybe unhook it from the pastic frame.

Doubt it was meant to come off like that lol. I would try taking a pry tool and see if you can pry it on the side to get the retention clips pulled outward from the heat sink. Looks like it may work that way.
