Understanding HDMI 2.0B

Hello guys,

(sorry if this is under the wrong category)

 

 Im currently in the process of a sim racing build for a triple monitor setup. I've already built my PC. But I just noticed that my graphics card has 2 display port and 2 hdmi 2.0b connectors. Now its very important to me that I  get 144hz.  I really hope this is possible, I read that HDMI 2.0b can do 144hz at 1080p res if the monitor can support it. Can someone give me clarification on this? Its really bothering me because I dont want to buy another graphics card just to get 1 extra display port.

HDMI 2.0 should be able to do up to 240Hz at 1080p, your monitor just needs to have an HDMI 2.0 port for that to work

What GPU do you have? If you're using a Nvidia card and you're looking at monitors with FreeSync (they're much cheaper) you will need to use DisplayPort to get to 144hz with Adaptive Sync enabled. If you're using a AMD GPU HDMI 2.0b and DisplayPort will work with 144hz monitors with FreeSync enabled. You can refer to this article for more info.

Functionally it will still work. HDMI 2.0b has more than enough bandwidth to carry a 1080p 144hz signal. Just be aware that you'll only be able to enable G-Sync on 2 of the 3 FreeSync monitors. What does this mean exactly? One of your monitors will not be adaptively syncing it's refresh rate with your cards current frame rate which could result in visual tearing. You could always forgo the triple display config in favor of a nice ultrawide monitor instead.

Looks good, I'd recommend either buying it in store if you can or on Amazon. Most other places have very strict return policies on monitors and won't let you return them unless their requirements are met.
