Intel Xeon help

So I'm looking to build a Xeon system for video editing. I am using adobe premiere pro. Currently I am editing on an AMD Athlon 200ge and integrated GPU.

The problem is when I use motion graphics files, there is a bit of stuttering and lag, and I wan't to get rid of that, so I am looking to buy a 6 core Xeon and a RX 470. Will this be enough for what I am doing, I can't really afford a 3600, or any Ryzen chip for that matter. Also I can't upgrade as I will need to buy a new motherboard (current is A320 and from my understanding I can't really put anything apart from an Athlon in it)

What I am planning to buy :

  • X79 motherboard
  • Xeon E5-2620 V2
  • 16GB DDR3 ECC RAM
  • RX470/550/570

------------------------------------------------------------

edit : my A320 board is made by Gigabyte, and from other forum threads I have seen, people have basically said it's useless and can't run 4 cores.

I would prefer a new system so I have 2 machines, budget is £150 and £50 extra for a GPU

You can get a 2600 used and use that. Do not waste money on ancient Xeons that can't keep up with a modern Ryzen 3...

Analogy of what you're trying to do is "you had enough of your bike, you don't have license for a motorbike, so you opt for an electric wheelchair instead". Yes it has 4 wheels rather than 2 but so what? It's a downgrade.

besides, not all A320 boards are only good for dual cores.

some are horrific and some aren't bad.

Depends on which one. Keep your platform. As core count isn't the only thing that matters. And get a 1600 af for like 100 bucks (if you can find one ?

) and that should do the job.

Doesn't say a whole lot.

Which gigabyte board. A brand isn't a model. For example the s2h is a perfectly good a320 board.

A board that can't run four cores on AM4 doesn't exist. Don't blindly trust idiots on forums, us included

I got this one. You don't know how much people tried to convince me not to get it

It's more than fine.. get a used 2600 or a new 1600 af if you can find one.

Not a huge upgrade. I wouldn't go for it.

As I said. The board will handle a 2600/ 1600af.

May I ask what is wrong with the Xeon system, as I kinda wanted 2 machines

Because It'll probably cost more getting the correct dram and the board and the chip and the GPU etc etc then just getting a 2600 and it won't perform even close to it.

Full thing is £70 on Aliexpress

I want to put them in different locations, one on one building one in another. In the other building I am using a HP thick client, and this would be a huge upgrade

I mean it'll be subpart at best.

For 70 pounds you can just get a better cpu on this existing platform.

If your dead set on it. I guess I can't really do much then. It'll be okay

It does not have to be a xeon, it can be anything

What is the best system I can build from scratch instead of upgrading.

BTW I am not gaming, just productivity

If that's your budget. Just upgrade. Don't bother with old xeons imo.

It's so ancient you'll likely notice a downgrade compared to even your Athlon.

Even. Worse.

Get a 2600. Your board is fine. Don't listen to brain-dead idiots who think a board can't do something just because of the chipset.

Thanks for advice. I did want a second PC so I might pick up another board. Am I right in getting the same one, or should I get a different one. Budget :

  • Board £50
  • CPU £50
