Linux is pretty good for testing pcs.

 

Here is a guide for ubuntu, but will work on many other distros. Ubuntu is a good start, and should work on most systems

You could make this https://www.system-rescue-cd.org/System-tools/

or something like that. That one has couple console commands for fetching hardware information.
