How far away from the modem are you ? Personally i would just go for a cat6 cable. Imagine now your using cat5 or something

Cat5e will do 1000Mbps and has proven to handle 2500Mbps. If your Ethernet cable is damaged cheap Cat5e will do you fine up-to 100m for 1000Mbps.

Next to the router...30 cm or less :D ..so it does not matter what make i use for the cable as long as it is a cat 6?

From what i know, CAT5 is 10-100Mbps, CAT5e is 100-1000/2500MBps and CAT6 is for 10Gb networking ...
1. try a second cable, yours might be broken a bit ...

2. make sure you are using a CAT5e, not just  CAT5

That cable would do the job fine but almost $24 is an absolute screaming ripoff. It's a incredibly basic 1m Cat5e network cable.

You shouldn't have to pay any more than about $7 or ~£5.50.

Is monoprice an option for you? Even with their shipping surcharge it is half the price as the one you posted.
