Choosing a PSU for my PC

NivZman

I recently bought a new computer with a i7 10700K and RTX 2080 Super. And when I submitted the build parts to the store, the guy there told me that the PSU I chose is not in stock (Corsair rm850x). And that they only have the Corsair rm750 (not rmx). I wonder if this is a good enough PSU for my PC. Because I imagine the computer is going to be under high load pretty frequently when I play games.

Do you think it is a good enough PSU? Are there any other suggestions I can look into? (They don't have everything but there is some variety)

Hello,

Yes it's a good PSU and 550W is more than enough for such a build.

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/3Vc48d/be-quiet-straight-power-11-550w-80-gold-certified-fully-modular-atx-power-supply-bn281

This one is a really good quality unit. Only limitations would be a potencial high wattage GPU and CPU combo.

This one is singlerail, not ideal and a little worse "quality" wise than the previous mention.

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/YBYQzy/be-quiet-straight-power-11-650-w-80-platinum-certified-fully-modular-atx-power-supply-bn641

Also a good quality option, unsure if the issues related to this model has been resolved.

How about Antec's High Current Gamer ? Or Antec's earthwatts GOLD PRO ?

Are any of those mentions supposed to be better than the corsair rm750 ?

The 750rm (which is my current default if I don't tell him otherwise in the next few days) also has gold efficiency. I wonder if it could be better than the rm750.

Just out off curiosity, can the PSU actually affect my PC in a way that would make a big difference? I mean do some PSU's provide "bertter" current than others? Can it have an effect on my computer and it's components?

unless its a really bad PSU, not really.

if its something like a poor group reg, yes. it could have the long term implecation of degrading the unput filtering to the point of failure. killing the board or something like a GPU.

gold efficiency is not quality, id put the straight power 11 gold above the RM in terms of quality.

or even the Thermaltake unit i mentioned.

What do you mean by poor reg?

I guess my main concern here is, whether the rm750 is reliable enough so all the stuff mentioned here will not happen.

group regulation. related to the 5v and 12v being regulated together, often lacking UVP which leads the input filtering having to compensate. eventually leading to the death of input fitlering. or something along those lines.

the RM is a plenty reliable unit. tho as i said, id grab the GF1 over it.

I just checked in the store's website and it seems like they don't have any Thermaltake PSU's.

So I guess my main 2 options are the corsair's rm750 or be quiet's 750W STRAIGHT POWER 11

From what I understand the be quiet's PSU is the better option right? I should go and tell the guy to switch to this one in your opinion?

Id suggest picking the straight power 11 over the RM.
