The m.2 ssds on that motherboard only support pcie 3.0 not 4.0

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

With a Comet Lake CPU (10600K, 10700K, 10900K, etc.), PCIe 4.0 drives will work, but will run at 3.0 speeds. Not like you're going to notice the difference though, most likely.

According to Intel and from what we've heard so far, Rocket Lake (11th gen) will provide PCIe 4.0 lanes, so in that case you'd be getting the entire 4.0 bandwidth to your 4.0 drives, since most if not all Z490 boards come with PCIe 4.0 switches on them.

 

Also, don't spend $500 on a motherboard.

At PCIE 3.0 speeds yes. Even 11th gen CPUs may not offer PCIE 4.0 for SSD
